Crediton mercied the Byron Juniors 10-0 and lost to Otterville by a score of 4-2. Crediton 10 vs Byron Juniors 0 Crediton had an almost perfect game recently defeating Byron Juniors by a score of 10-0. Only five Byron batters were allowed on base and all innings remained scoreless for Crediton's opponent. The Cubs jumped on the board very early in the game notching five runs in the first inning The team added two in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to record the mercy. Nikki Cyr led her team at the plate going four for four with a double and three singles. Marianne Scott also went four for four with a walk, single, double and triple. A double and single apiece came from the bats of Kathy Glen, Kelli Fulton and Kerri Fulton Catcher Mary Glen pound- ed out a hard double in the fifth to score runs and Carie Pertschy and Megan Preszcator added a single hit apiece. Carrie Dixon started very strongly as pitcher for Crediton with Marianne Scott closing the game. Crediton 2 vs Otterville 4 Only two strikeouts were recorded by the Otterville pitcher in the 4- 2 loss. Crediton's bats were very strong but it seemed the team could not break Otterville's strong fielding defence. Crediton started its only scoring rally a little too late after two players crossed home plate in the sixth inning With bases loaded and two out, the Cubs could not capitalize and tie the game. Megan Preszcator and Mary Glen were the only players to score for Crediton and each player hit two singles apiece. Kathy Glen, Kelli Fulton, Kerri Fulton and Nikki Cyr added single hits. Carrie Dixon again pitched strongly for Crediton notching five strikeouts with relief from Marianne Scott notching one strikeout. Crediton played Dorchester last night and heads to the Oneida ball- park this Friday night. Marian ne Scott Mar y Glen Winning teams to be honoured CALGARY Canada's world championship hockey teams will be hon- oured in Calgary at the annual Canadian Hockey Foundation Celebrity Classic gala dinner on June 23 and at the celebrity golf tournament June 24. The annual event returns to Calgary for the second time after being held in the city in 2007. Three teams- Canada's national junior team, National Men's Under -18 Team and National Sledge Team - will be honoured at the event, as all three teams claimed gold medals at their respective world championships during the 2007-08 season. The fundraising din- ner will be held at the TELUS Convention Centre June 23. As part of the festiv- ities, Hockey Canada will pay tribute to Bill Hay and the late Ed Chynoweth for their contributions to hock- ey development in Canada. Hockey Canada alumni and other celebrities will be in attendance at the event, which will be hosted by Gord Miller of TSN. Other highlights include live and silent auctions, a hotstove session hosted by Ryan Walter featuring Team Canada alumni, ring presentations to Canada's world champions, and a performance by Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo. The celebrity golf tournament will be held June 24 with each golf foursome will joined by a Hockey Canada celebrity. The Canadian Hockey Foundation hopes to build on the success of last year's event which resulted in over $500,000 being raised and con- tributed to its endow- ment program. To date, the CHF has committed over $2 million in grants to Hockey Canada to support the develop- ment and execution of leading edge initia- tives aimed at cele- brating hockey her- itage, continuing the winning tradition on the international stage and helping create an even more promising future for the game. The CHF works directly with Hockey Canada to select pro- jects aligned within its funding focus areas of skill develop- ment and qualified coaching, accessibility and diversity, athlete and alumni support, health and wellness and next generation programming.
