If you are prone to cold sores, be sure to apply
sunscreen to your lips daily when you are out in
the sun. Sunlight seems to activate the cold sore
virus in some people. Some lip balms do contain
a sunscreen for good protection. Remember to
apply all sunscreen products 30-60 minutes prior to sun exposure.
If one of your nutrition goals is to increase your vegetable intake,
do it slowly. For some people, eating more Brussels sprouts,
broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and onions may cause them to feel
bloated and gaseous. This is true for any high fibre -containing
product. Start with a low "dose" and increase slowly.
Goingto the Olympic Games in Beijing this summer? There is a
goodchancethat smog levels in the city may be high. Take along
an N-95 mask in your luggage in case things get a bit thick. These
masks are effective against both air and virus particles.
This is the time of year when we remind our readers to be aware
of the medications they take and the possible interaction with the
sunlight. We put auxiliary labels on your prescription bottle to
alert you if the drug could cause a photoreaction.
Our pharmacists are always available to talk to you about your
medication concerns. It's a job we thoroughly enjoy. We hope to
see you soon.
