(photo/submitted) Memorial golf tournament remembers Strang EXETER — On June 2, 120 golfers attended the third annual Gord Strang golf tournament at Ironwood Golf Club. The tournament was held to raise money for maintenance of the MacNaughton Park to Morrison Dam walking trail. Strang was instrumental in devel- oping the trail and his Monday golf buddies organized the tournament in his memory. Golfers attended from Guelph, London, Kitchener, Toronto, Strathroy, Exeter and Michigan with over $4,500 raised to maintain the trail. The winning team this year was the Beattie family of Exeter which includes Al, Heather, their son Sean and Heather's sister Sue Ann Rasenberg. The closest to the pin winners were Dan Pearson and Louise Pincombe with the women's longest drive won by Joanne Wareham of London. The Gorilla award was won by Sean Beattie and Bob Laye had the hot putter of the day. The tournament will be held the Crediton Cubs split two league games CREDITON - The Crediton Cubs jr./int. fastball team split two league games this past week and had a game against Oneida Wild called after one inning due to rain. Crediton's first home game of the season found the local athletes bundled up for `arctic' weather. The game ended up as a slugfest match with Crediton losing 17-18. With only nine players, Angie Gould and Marianne Scott pulled muscles due to the cold but had to keep playing due to lack of a bench. Crediton jumped on the scoreboard early in the game but were unable to finish as Otterville kept chipping away at the score to take the lead in the seventh inning. Kathy Glen led her team at the plate with a home run and three singles. Nikki Cyr pounded out a double and added two singles. Kerri Fulton, Gould, Megan Preszcator, and Kelli Fulton added thee hits apiece while Mary Glen and Scott pounded out a double and a single hit while Carie Pertschy added two single hits. Scott started strong- ly in the pitcher's position while Kathy Glen was the closer for the game. Crediton 8 versus Ilderton I The local squad played a fantastic game travelling to Ilderton and defeating its oppo- nent 8-1. Kathy Glen Kathy Glen pitched a strong game allowing only 24 batters in seven innings. Crediton scored one run apiece in the second and third innings but broke the game open with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the win. Kathy Glen led her team at the plate with a triple and three singles. Nikki Cyr went three for four at the plate with three singles. Two sin- gle hits apiece came from the bats of Kelli Fulton and Carie Pertschy. Angie Gould pounded out a double in the fourth inning while Mary Glen, Marianne Scott, Megan Preszcator and Kerri Fulton added single hits. N ikki Cyr Power skating school ST. MARYS — There are still spots available in the Power Skating/Hockey Skills clinic, starting June 16 at the Pyramid Recreation Centre in St. Marys. The clinic is being run by Jr. B Lincolns' coaches Merlin Malinowski and Paul Petrie and general manager Warren Nye. Contact Petrie at 284- 3586. The camp runs for nine weeks, featuring two hours per week for a total of 18 hours. Petrie says they would like 20 players per session. Mites/Tykes skate on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Peewees/Bantams skate Mondays from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.; Novices/Atoms skate on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; and Midgets and up skate on Tuesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. The goaltending clinic is already sold out.
