Tavistock crokinole tournament
TAVISTOCK —
Many factors are
important in deter-
mining who will do
well at a tournament,
says local crokinole
player Joe Fulop.
"These include the
quality of one's oppo-
nents, how sharp
your skills are on that
day, and dealing with
adverse conditions
from personal health
problems to the effect
of hot humid condi-
tions."
Fulop said two
teams from Varna
participated in the
doubles tournament
over the weekend.
"The winners
again, for the fourth
time, were Ray and
Jason Beierling.
Congratulations to
them."
The other pair was
Ab Leitch and Joe
Fulop who were
unable to qualify for
a playoff round.
Varna sent four
members to the tour-
nament in the singles
division.
Three of
them were
exceptional
in their
results.
Leitch rose
to top of the
players'
ranks and
finished a
strong sec-
ond.

Beierling was almost
as good finishing a
solid fourth.
He shared the 20's
title with Jason
Beierling who was
able to reach the top
16 round of playoffs
for another year.
Fulop said he him-
selfcame up flat fail-
ing to qualify for the
top 16 playoff round
for the first time in 10
years.
"There are no
excuses to be made.
I did receive a trophy
for past accomplish-
ments as I had been
in the top four seven
out of nine years.
Maybe next year."

lied for five runs on six hits.
He will improve, Fulop said.
The Express scored their
first run on a delayed double
steal with Lonnie Hawke being
the one who romped home. He
had reached base on a field-
er's choice, advanced on Tim
Eifert's single and then the
steal.
The second run for the
Express was attained through
walks to Lonnie Hawke, Vic
Oliveira and Burk and a wild
pitch.
The Express had five hits by
Bobbie Grant, Chris Grosnell,
Hawke, Eifert and Vic Oliveira.
The team has home games

Fury shutout 1-0 by Delhi
EXETER — The Exeter Fury
were shutout at home June 4 los-
ing 1-0 to Delhi.
Early in the game the Delhi
striker managed to weave his way
through the Fury defense and gain
a breakaway on Fury keeper
Shawn Tucker.
Tucker, who had been called up
from the Masters team, had no
chance as he was beaten cleanly
along the ground.
Earlier, Tucker had made a cou-

ple of big saves including being
involved in a colliision with a Delhi
player while making the save.
The Fury had a few chances
throughout the game but contin-
ued to fire their shots over the net
when given the opportunity to
make a play towards the goal.
The Delhi goalie was rarely test-
ed in the match and had no trou-
ble picking up the shutout.
The next action for the Fury is
Sunday in St. Thomas.
