The groom is the son of Ron and Sally Desjardine, Zurich. The couple will be living in Brucefield. Congratulations to bride and groom - Melanie Seip and Adam Bedard whose wedding was held on Sat., June 7 at the Recreation Centre in Exeter with dinner and reception. Adam is the son of Ivan and Rosemary Bedard of Zurich. The couple will live in Exeter. Congratulations to newlyweds Sarah Vermunt and Vimal Gandhi who mar- ried on Sat., June 7 at Hessanland near St. Joseph with dinner held there as well. The bride is the daughter of Brenda and Walter Vermunt of RR 2 Zurich. The couple is living in Toronto. Zurich Fair 2008 Be sure and get your tickets for the Zurich Fair Elimination Draw and Dance on Fri., July 25 at the Bluewater Complex starting at 8 p.m. Cost is only $10 for a chance to win up to $1000. Live music will be provided by the band "Quarter Mile Lane" with Kati Durst. Tickets may be purchased from the Lions Club members or Fair board members as well as at some stores around town. The Agriculture Society meeting will be held on Thurs., June 19 at the town hall at 8 p.m. with president Hilda Lansbergen. Everyone is encouraged to attend and help plan the Zurich Fair on July 25 - 27. A reminder that the Men's Breakfast is this Sat., June 14 at Erb's Country Kitchen beginning at 8:30 a.m. Call Jack Baker if you would like a ticket. St. Peter's 1 35th Anniversary St. Peter's CWL (St. Joseph) will be having their meeting on Tues., June 17 at the home of president Dianne Tucker at 7:15 p.m. Also this Thurs., June 12 is another planning meeting at the Tucker's to pre- pare for their parish 135th anniversary. St. Boniface CWL meeting will be held on Tues., June 17 (following mass) with president Joan Regier. Theresa Strickland (my sister) of Nova Scotia is spending from Sunday to Wednesday of this week with Carmel and Jerome Sweeney, visiting with our girls and families while on vacation for a month. She will be travelling to such places as Toronto, London, Stratford, London, Sarnia and Windsor to see rela- tives and friends. Theresa is also attending her 45th year reunion of nurs- ing from St. Joseph's Hospital in London. We (along with Beth, Carrie, Heather and Heidi) recently enjoyed seeing the play "My Fair Lady" at the Grand Bend Playhouse with supper at Aunt Gussie's afterwards. Happy belated 80th birthday wishes go out to Helen MacLean on May 31. A family get together and Sunday brunch was held at the Oakwood Inn, Grand Bend with relatives coming from Milton, Burlington, Chatham, Goderich and the Zurich area. The Hensall Spring Fair will be held this Fri., June 13 and Sat., June 14. Don't miss the fun. Blessings A fundraising barbecue lunch was held at Blessing Store in Zurich last Saturday with a good turn -out and all proceeds went to support National Hunger Awareness Day, buying milk and yogurt for the Food Bank. Don't forget the very first Saturday of the month all clothing will cost 50 cents. Congratulations go out to eight year old Melody Cyr of Zurich (daughter of Mike and Colleen) as they travelled to Toronto last Saturday where Melody competed in a `Tae Kwondo" demon- stration returning home with two gold medals. Previously Melody received two silver medals at another competition in Kitchener on May 10. The youngster trains twice a week in Exeter at Tri- Star. Bluewater Rest Home The residents at the Blue Water Rest Home are kept busy doing various activ- ities during the day and having various groups in to entertain. They have enjoyed barbecue lunches out on the patio as well as outings to Pizza Hut in Goderich. (photo/Scott Nixon) UCW potluck supper EXETER - The evening unit of Exeter United Church Women held its June meeting at Laurie Shapton's cot- tage in Norman Heights. A bountiful potluck supper was enjoyed on the lawn by 29 ladies but, with the threat of rain everyone scurried inside for the meeting. Unit leader, Marion Kerslake welcomed everyone and read a poem. Two banquets are planned for October. Laurie Shapton, Jean Goff, Marj Tuckey and Mavis Atthill conducted a program of contest and readings. The annual Friendship Tea for shut-ins was held. The accused responsible is in custody awaiting a bail hearing. It is alleged that at around 1 a.m. June 8, the victim along with three other french exchange students were walk- ing on Main Street in Grand Bend in the area of the OPP detachment. Information is that a male person was observed by the four to use a sharp instrument to flatten the front tire of an unattended OPP cruiser parked in front of the office. The sus- pect then turned and struck the teen with the same sharp object causing a laceration across his abdomen. The suspect, another male and two females simply walked away. The victim's companions waved down a passing cruiser. Officers tended to the victim until an ambu- lance could transport him to South Huron Hospital in Exeter for treat- ment. The injury is deemed to not be life threatening. With information provided by the group, officers found three persons that were accompany- ing the suspect on Warwick Street. Follow-up to a cottage on Warwick Street found the suspect who was arrested without incident. The 19 - year -old male from London faces charges of assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, mis- chief over $5,000 and fail to comply with undertaking -FREE! FREE! FREE!
