Tornado causes damage in Clandeboye
By Nina Van Lieshout
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
CLANDEBOYE — "I couldn't believe it,"
says Clandeboye resident Jennifer Dayman,
who watched from the kitchen as her patio
furniture went flying across the backyard
during Sunday's tornado.
"I was home cooking supper and the
patio furniture and the trampoline went
flying by the window," adds Dayman, say-
ing she went outside where it was extreme-
ly windy, saw a funnel cloud and took off
barefoot down the street.
Dayman, who was home alone at the
time, ran down the street to inform her
husband Jerry and daughter Cassandra.
"I was thinking 'Oh my god,— says
Dayman, adding, "I couldn't believe it."
No one was injured, although the patio
furniture, which was brand new, is partial-
ly broken.
The aluminum roof on the Daymans'
backyard shed is also torn off.
Jerry, some family members and friends
were busy cleaning up the wreckage
Monday.
About a block away, Clandeboye resi-
dents Joseph and Kathy and 14 -month-old
son Nicholas Hattayer were also affected
by Sunday's tornado, as Hattayer's parents'
trailer was flipped on its side in his back-
yard.
Joseph, who was in London at Home
Depot, called home after hearing a funnel
cloud had touched down in the area.
Joseph says he was "really worried" about
his family, but thankfully everyone was OK.
Joseph says ironically before he left for
the day he had moved his black F150
truck, which he originally parked beside
the trailer, to another spot.
"I was thinking, that's not a good spot for
it," says Joseph, adding, "If I hadn't moved
my truck at the last minute, it would have
gotten hit."
Safe and sound —A tornado hit the Clandeboye area Sunday, causing damage to a few
properties.Above, Clandeboye resident Joseph Hattayer, who wasn't home when the
storm hit, holds son 1 4 -month-old Nicholas in front of his parent's flipped trailer. Hattayer
says his son and wife Kathy were not hurt. See additional photos on page 2.

There were reports of tornadoes or fun-
nel clouds in a few areas of Southwestern
Ontario Sunday night, including Lucan,
Sombra in Lambton County and near
Burgessville in Oxford County.
Environment Canada investigators con-
firmed a tornado did touch down in the
Lucan area.
Water rates in Exeter and Stephen to increase
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
SOUTH HURON — That brand new, multi-
million dollar water pipeline from Lake
Huron to Exeter is going to mean increased
water bills for local residents.
Under the new draft rates, average annual
water/sewage bills in Exeter are slated to
jump from the current $758 to $1,123. In
Stephen, the average will jump from an
average current bill of $764 to $811.
The new proposed rates haven't been for-
mally accepted by council yet and two public
meetings will be held before council votes on
the rates.
There are several reasons for the increase,
but the biggest is the new Lake Huron water
pipeline to Exeter. South Huron's share of
the project is $13.5 million, minus a $4.3
million provincial/federal grant the munici-
pality received.
Current quarterly water/sewage rates in
Exeter are a $75 base charge, plus 57 cents
per cubic metre of water consumed. The
quarterly sewage charge is 77 per cent of
the water bill.
New water fees, slated to take effect July 1,
will jump significantly, although there will be
savings on the sewage side of the bill.
The quarterly base charge for water in
Exeter will drop to $60, but there will be a
new $82 per quarter charge for the pipeline.
The water rate of 57 cents per cubic metre
of water used will jump to $1.53 per cubic
