Below are GBCF execu- tive director Anne Donohoe (left) and incoming board chairperson Dave Bannister with office volun- teer Melodie Northey, who was recognized for her service. (photos/Pat Bolen) GRAND BEND — The Grand Bend Community Foundation (GBCF) held its annual celebra- tion in conjunction with its annual general meet- ing May 29 at the Grand Bend Community Health Centre. Retiring board chair- person Hank Krech noted some of the achievements of the foundation in 2007 that included the creation of an endowment fund for the health centre as well as the creation of the Hay Communication Fund and the Environment Legacy Fund. The foundation dis- tributed grants totalling $118,069 in 2007 to 12 organizations. Krech also reported that the foundation established a new envi- ronmental program in 2007. Krech added that 2007 was a challenging year for the foundation from an investment stand- point. "The investment per- formance on our capital funds was at a rate of 2.88 per cent. Some other community foun- dations in Canada actu- ally had negative returns, so we are for- tunate to be on the posi- tive side. However this poor rate of return will probably impact on our ability to grant to the level that we have done in previous years." Incoming chairperson Dave Bannister thanked Krech and said the board has elected Kretch to the position of honorary chairperson to recognize his achieve- ments. Bannister added that Hank and Jacqui Krech have established the Krech Family Endowment Fund in the amount of $10,000. "The fund will reach the goal over a five year period. Today we received a cheque for $2,000 and a pledge for $2,000 a year for the next four years. This is an operating endow- ment fund whose earn- ings will help to ensure the objectives of the GBCF are achieved over r the years." Also recognized during the event along with Krech were retiring directors George Shaw and Randi Ivey as well as a certificate of appreciation to office volunteer Melodie Northey.
