Joy ride to LCBO ends with impaired EXETER — On May 24 Huron OPP officers were advised of a motorist who had been nearly forced off London Road by a suspected impaired driver. The motorist called 911 and followed the driver into the LCBO parking lot in Exeter. Shortly after, officers arrived on scene. With the information from the complainant and the observations of the officers at the scene, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and taken to the Exeter detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a quali- fied breathalyzer technician. The readings confirmed the driver had over two times the legal limit of alcohol in his system at the time of the incident. It was also deter- mined that the vehicle being driven was stolen. As a result of the investigation, a 42 -year-old Central Huron man was charged with impaired driving, drive with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 mililitres of blood in his system, driving while disqualified, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and breach of proba- tion. The male passenger in the vehicle lied to police about his identity and will be charged with obstructing police and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
