Bakeless bakesale at UCW meeting

was in Varna on Sunday with
worship leader Margaret
Hearn leading the service.
Margaret reflected on "The
Tree of Abraham." What tree
are we?
Flowers placed in the sanc-
tuary were in loving memory
of Elmer Hayter. Condolences
and prayers go to Norene
Hayter and her family. Elmer
passed away Wed., May 28
with his family around him.
Elmer will be missed by many.
Church this Sun., June 8 will
be led by Margaret Hearn.
Varna UCW meet Thurs.,
June 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Varna Church.
There will be a bakeless
bake sale. Bring your money
and forget about your baking.

sure to bring along extra
water pitchers, boards for hot
food and serving spoons.

board meeting June 26 at 8

A Varna Goshen congrega-
tional meeting to finalize the
"joint needs assessment
process" June 29 at 11:30
a.m. after a shortened church
service. Be sure to attend this
important meeting.
Utilize the Meals On Wheels
EXETER — Throughout the
month of May keyboard musicians
were Jean Hodgert, Ruth Insley
and Josie Ryckman.
On May 6 our speaker was Julie
Hicks from the Ausable Bayfield
Conservation Authority. Our draw
prizes were won by Iva Blair,
Harry Dougall, Mike Garant and
Alma Langford. Karen Lehnen
from the VON office spoke on May
13. Draw prizes were won by
Burdene Morgan, Iva Blair, Marj
Mills and Marshall Dearing.
On May 20 our speaker was
Gwen Good from Town and
Country Support Services who
spoke on spring cleaning. Bev.
Morgan, Alvin Faulder and
Harvey Hyde won draw prizes.
Murray Christie and May F. Dow
played the keyboard and saxo-
phone on May 27. Draw prizes
were won by Leona Hern, Iva
Blair and Burdene Morgan. A
sympathy card was sent to the
family of the late Helen Otterbein.
Foot care June 3 and 17
Foot care appointments can be
made by contacting 235-0258.
The next appointment dates will
be on June 3 and 17.
If anyone is interested in reading
a good book or working on a jig-
saw puzzle, come on over to the
Lions Youth Centre and help your-
self.
If cooking meals is getting you
down, call the office at 235-0258
and speak to us about the frozen
Meals On Wheels program. It is a
nice alternative to cooking a daily
meal, and you get to choose what
you would like to eat.

HENSALL - The deadline for the Hensall Spring
Fair photo contest is 8 p.m. on Thurs., June 5.
Full details and entry forms are available at
Hensall Public Library. Full details of this year's
fair can be found on the Village of Hensall web-
site, and at the Hensall Public Library.
On Friday evening June 13, there will be a bar-
becue chicken dinner at the fair (advance tickets
only), as well as a horse show, pork carcass com-
petition and auction, official opening, fair raffle
draw, homecraft, school and coloring contest dis-
plays.
On Sat., June 14 there will be Old McDonald's
Farm, a parade, a pet show, horticultural flower
and art show, bake sale, Hensall Idol contest,
prince and princess draw, tractor pull, clowns,
face painting, animal balloons, tug of war, sheep
show, and lawn tractor racing. There will be a
midway on both fair days provided by Carter
Shows. Admission is free, but please bring a non-
perishable food item. See you at the fair!
The 160th anniversary of Carmel Presbyterian
Church was celebrated on Sun., June 1. Rev.
Andy Meinen was the minister with Joyce Pepper
as pianist for the ministry of song. Jennifer
Taylor and Amanda Meinen contributed to this
special day with their gift of song. Lunch and a
social time were enjoyed following the service.
Decoration Day service will be held at Baird's
Cemetery on Sun., June 8.
On June 14 the Hensall and
VON fundraiser
Charity Breakfast —VON Middlesex -Elgin held its first Charity Breakfast June 1 at
the Ailsa Craig Community Centre. Many local firefighters were on hand, helping cook
pancakes, ham, sausage, eggs, beans and home fries.Above from left are Parkhill firefight-

annual flower show and bake sale at the arena.
