The local squad is playing in the 'A' division of the 15 -team junior/intermediate tier II tri -county league this season. The team will find itself with tough competition but will travel to London for the majority of its games. The Cubs have seen some changes this year with key players bowing out for a sea- son. Cathy Conlin and Julie Prout went on the part time list due to school commit- ments while Amber Preszcator is enjoying adven- tures in Australia. Kelli Fulton has returned to the lineup this season while Natalie Laporte graduated to the Cubs squad. Casey Cyr, Mary Glen and Megan Owen have also signed team rosters for the 2008 season. Crediton 7 versus Byron Jrs. 5 Crediton faced a strong Byron squad at its first 2008 showing. The Cubs jumped on the scoreboard at their first at bat, scoring two runs by Kathy Glen and Angie Gould. The team's bats stalled for two innings but scored runs in the last four innings to take the win. Clean-up batter Kerri Fulton led her Carie Pertschy team at bat with two singles and scored in the seventh after reaching first by being hit by a pitch. Carie Pertschy hit a long triple scor- ing Kelli Fulton after her double hit. Doubles also came from the bats of Angie Gould and Marianne Scott. Kathy Glen placed a perfect bunt to reach first Nikki Cyr added a double and also went three for four at the plate with two walks. Some strong defensive plays were keys to Crediton's win. Angie Gould and Kathy Glen made phenomenal catches in Ke rri Fulton centre field for some key outs while Kerri Fulton and Nikki Cyr were a great combination at short and second. Marianne Scott started the game for Crediton with strong relief from Kathy Glen. Coach Deb Lord states "This season's team will again demonstrate superb fastball ability and teamwork. All twelve players are utility players, having the ability to play several positions." The Cubs play every Tuesday night in Crediton at 9 p.m. excluding July 19. Minor soccer league weekly scores U7 Red Red Team had its first loss of the season against a very physical Green Team. Jillian Durnin did her best to keep her eyes on the opposition as Taylor Meikle helped out with his good positional play. Cormick Wheeler had loads of touches to keep pace with Green and was able to turn it around numerous times. Tanner Dale tried to lessen the lead on a pass from Logan Hardie. This was a strong for- ward line this week as Kurt Gidge scored the goal to tie the game. With lots of determina- tion, Jacqueline Durnin kept digging at the ball. Great stops by goalies Kyle Lapointe, Paiton Vanneste and Jack Robinson helped to keep it a close game. U7 Gold May 22 The U7 Gold team cele- brated a victory. With excellent end-to- end running by Kobe, Kennedy playing consis- tently wonderful in any position and Cameron's awesome passes, Nathan was sure to get a goal. Alexis had very strong kicks that were always close to hitting the net. Having such strong defensive players as Colin, Vanessa, Conner and Katie, the purple team only got two shots on our net. During those shots Meghan and Nolan kept their eyes on the ball. Congratulations Gold. The team welcomed Danielle Smith who made her presence felt with some strong attacking runs from mid- field. Well taken goals by Victoria and Maiike. On May 21 in Strathroy the Fury were shut out 4-0 by a young and talented Middlesex squad. On Sunday in London the Fury could not get anything started against a solid Balkan team, losing 3-0. In the cold wind and pouring rain last week the Fury were no match for the speedy Middlesex group. Fury keeper Ryan Masse made two diving saves at the beginning of the match and turned away other excellent scoring chances as the game progressed to keep the score respectable. In London, the Fury played the first half without any substitutes and it proved to be a factor in the outcome of the game. Exeter allowed all three goals in the first 45 minutes but was energized by the arrival of three players at the break. The Fury came out looking stronger in the second half and managed to create some chances toward the Balkan net but were unable to find the back of the net. Fury spokesperson Jason McFalls stated the Fury are struggling offensively after not having scored since the first 10 minutes of the opening game this season. "We will turn things around offensively. We just need to become more aggressive when we get around the opposition's net," McFalls added. The next action for the Fury is Sunday in Ingersoll. Lawn bowling Sat.
