By Carmel Sweeney
ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH - A surprise 75th
birthday get-together supper
was held for Keith Volland at his
house on Sat., May 17 with his
children and their spouses and
grandchildren, along with
friends and relatives spending
the Victoria holiday weekend
with Keith (actual birth date
May 19).
Audrey Smith's sister Wanda
from Kitchener recently spent a
few days with her.
A lovely 50th anniversary cele-
bration was held for Leo and
Irene Hoffman on Sat., May 24
which began with 5 p.m. mass
at St. Boniface Church by Fr.
Keller where the couple had
their marriage blessed. The
mass was attended by their fam-
ily and relatives.
Afterwards nearly 40 invited
guests joined them for a deli-
cious buffet dinner held at Erb's
Country Kitchen in Zurich for a
private party. The dining room
was decorated beautifully for
the occasion with flowers, bal-
loons, candles, pictures, cake
and music.
Two of their original wedding
party were present and even
Irene's wedding gown was worn
by her daughter. The evening
was also in honor of Leo's 75th
birthday that is coming up on
June 20. Family members, rela-
tives and friends came from var-
ious places to celebrate this
happy occasion.
Larry and Debbie Denomme of
RR #2 Zurich are happy to
announce the arrival of their
2nd grandchild. Little Maxwell
(Max) Alexander was born on
May 21 to proud parents
Matthew and Tamra Denomme
of London. This is another
great-grandchild for Jim and
Joy Hogg of St. Joseph.
Recent visitors at the home of
Kathlene and Mick Todoroff
were her friends Natalie and
Belinda Hunt from Dover,
Pennsylvannia for a few days.
Best wishes go out to Dan
McCarter for a speedy recovery
after his knee surgery.
A joint surprise 50th birthday
party was held for cousins
Marilyn Kenda and Crolyn Rau
last Saturday at the township
hall with several friends and
relatives attending. The actual
date of Marilyn's birthday was
on May 15 and Carolyn's birth-
day is coming up on May 31.
St. Boniface
Twelve grade 2 children of St.
Boniface School made their First
Communion on Sun., May 25
with a special mass at 2 p.m. for
the occasion. Family celebra-
tions were held at various
places afterwards.
Babies baptized at St. Boniface
recently were Harlen Fredrick
Regier, son of Robert and
Tammy of Zurich; Payton Olivia
Geoffrey, daughter of Jeremy
and Sarah of Exeter; Max Karl
Regier Jr. of RR 3 Zurich. Each
family had get-togethers after-
wards at different places.
On Tues, May 20 my daughter
Beth from Grand Bend and
myself (Carmel) had a great day
together in London as she treat-
ed me to a delicious dinner and
live concert at the J.L.C. to see
Anne Murray Live. It was so
good! This ticket was still part
of my Christmas gift from Beth,
that I was able to enjoy.

New owner for
clothing store
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — After eight
years as an employee at
European Addition in
Exeter, Alison Wedlake
is looking forward to the
challenge of being the
owner after recently
buying the business from
previous owner Karen
Zehetner.
Wedlake said she
always had it in the back
of her mind and when
Zehetner said she was
planning on selling,
Wedlake knew instantly
she wanted to buy the
clothing store.
While she says she will
be keeping the store's
line of women's clothes
the same, she plans on
adding a line of Signal
men's clothes to the
Signal women's clothes
the store already carries.
It is the first time own-
ing a business for
Wedlake and she says
she has always enjoyed
choosing clothes and is
looking forward to the
business side.
Wedlake held an open
house Saturday and says
the community support
has been encouraging.
She also thanks
Zehetner for the first
chance to buy the build-
ing.
