Wednesday, May 21, 2008 SPORTS Times—Advocate 11 Weekly minor soccer league scores U5 The U5 Green team got off to a great start this year with lots of energy and excitement. Veteran Lauren Hoonaard has a strong start, bringing experience to the team and will definetly be a force to be reckoned with this summer. Young Danika McPherson-Zachar and Jori Westlake bring exuberance and non-stop running abilities to the team, while a solid goal- tending clinic was put on by rookie Conor Thiel. U7 Blue The blue team played the green team. The blue team won. A very impres- sive start to the season. Honourable mention goes to Peter Frielink and Jakob Esch (goal scorers), Hanna Tait, Dylan Kints and Logan Finch for their hard work and excellent team work. Also hard work from Lexie Szabo. U7 Gold May 15 - The Gold team had their first game and many excellent soccer skills were evident. Kennedy had strong kicks which allowed her to land one right into the net. Nathan had spectacular saves when he played goaltender. Katie and Meghan would not let the ball go past them as they always stopped the red opponents. Kobe and Alexis were great team players when passing the ball to their teammates. Vanessa and Nolan had strong kicks down the middle of the field when we needed them. Colin and Connor showed their dribbling ability many times to get the ball into the red zone. The whole team worked together to help Nathan get his goal. U7 Boys Red May 15 - Red started off the season with a well deserved win. Early in the game Paiton Vanneste made a diving save to prevent the Gold Team from taking a lead. With the great field cov- erage of defender Tanner Dale and as Dean Skonieczny continued to attack the ball, Jack Robinson scored the first goal of the season on a pass from Kyle Lapointe. Great teamwork guys. Late in the game, Aliya Ford went in for the win- ning goal. Several attempts by Gold were shut down by the impres- sive hustle of defensemen Kurt Gidge and Logan Hardie. Way to protect your goalie. U9 Exeter Red 7 versus Exeter Green 1 - A great game played by all with some great goals and some outstanding goal- tending by Emma and Alex. U10 Boys South Huron 3 versus Woodstock 3 After being tripped up in the penalty area, Luc Arbour was awarded a penalty kick. The Woodstock keeper made a good save on the initial shot, but Luc and MUNICIPALITY OF SOUTH HURON SUMMER PROGRAMS 2008 KIRKTON-WOODHAM SWIMMING POOL - 229-6522 & EXETER & DISTRICT SWIMMING POOL - 235-3169 Registration - Wednesday, June 4 from 6:30 - 8:00 P.M. After the hosts tied the score on a deflected free kick, Jacob Hrudka took a great pass from Ben Turner and drove the ball past the Woodstock keep- er to make it 2-1 for South Huron. Luc Arbour took a nice pass from Brendan Gordon in the second half and scored his second goal of the game. An aggressive Woodstock attack was held back by the South Huron defense, with Alec Speers and Jake Tyler working especially hard to hold them off. Sam McEwan made many good saves to keep the score 3-1.However, two late strikes by the hosts resulted in a 3-3 THE HOME OF THE WEEK HOME IMPROVEMEN1 SPECIALIST F(oorsFirst Innovative Flooring *Armstrong Vinyl * Ceramics * Pergo * Carpet * Hardwood * Area Carpets PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATIONS 519-235-4401 457 MAIN ST.
