Proposed radio
station "bland"
Lights, Basia Bulat and Hooliesnatch
are all from this part of the country
but when do we ever get a chance to
hear them?
MY FM is proposing a station that
As an avid music fan, I am deeply reminds me of Kraft Dinner: inex-
disturbed by the fact that MY FM is pensive and easy to prepare, but
attempting to bring a radio station to with a bland taste that you certainly
our community. They wouldn't want to be forced to

including artists
such as: Elton
John, Bryan
Adams, Melissa
Etheridge, Shania
Twain, Blue Rodeo,
Fergie, Rod Stewart, Chicago,
Lionel Richie, Tom Cochrane,
Maroon Five, etc." Well, so do at
least four other stations in the area
right now. How is this unique?
They also espouse an "individual
community identity" when it comes
to music, however, the four other
radio stations they own in Kingston,
Renfrew, Strathroy and Pembroke
all have exactly the same Top 20
playlist. MY FM is proposing the
kind of packaged radio which takes
absolutely no effort: prefab stations
playing prefab music. They offer
nothing to me or others like me who
desperately want something differ-
ent. There are thousands of bands
and millions of songs out there...dif-
ferent songs, and we want to hear
them.
MY FM also guarantees on their
website that they will provide "addi-
tional exposure for Canadian talent,
and specifically talent from our com-
munity." The last time I checked,
Bryan Adams, Shania Twain and the
Barenaked Ladies did not live in
Southwestern Ontario. The Salads,

There are other kinds of
listeners out there and
our wants and needs
are not being served.
We are starved for the inno-
vation, adventure and daring
that FM radio used to represent.
If this is all MY FM has to offer, we
don't need them!
DALE G. PARSONS, Exeter
POLICE BRIEF
Exeter man facing
impaired charge
EXETER — On May 2 a Huron OPP offi-
cer was on general patrol on Huron Street
east in South Huron. Police observed a
green motor vehicle travelling eastbound
with no with light illuminating the rear
licence plate. A check of the rear licence
plate on the vehicle indicated that the
number did not match the vehicle descrip-
tion. A traffic stop was initiated and the
officer greeted a lone male driver who
could not produce a driver's licence, per-
mit or insurance for the vehicle. The dri-
ver provided verbal identification and it
was confirmed that he was prohibited
from driving in Canada as a result of two
prior Criminal Code Driving Convictions.
While police spoke to the driver regarding
his prohibited driving, a strong odour of
an alcoholic beverage was immediately
detected coming from his breath. Police
also observed other signs of impairment.
He was then arrested for impaired driving.
As a result of the prior driving convictions,
the vehicle driven was towed from the
scene and impounded for 45 days. The
male was taken to the Exeter Detachment
where he provided two samples of his
breath to a qualified breathalyzer techni-
cian. The results of the two tests confirmed
that the driver had more than three times
the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol
in his system. A 35 -year-old Exeter man
will appear in Exeter Court July 17, facing
charges of impaired driving and driving
with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100
millilitres of blood in his system."
