Disappointed in
human race
I was robbed today and I cannot call the local
police to report it. All I can do is write a letter to
my fellow citizens of Exeter to express my disap-
pointment again in the human race.
For the last six months I have been putting items
aside for the hospital rummage sale. I do this for
every one of the sales thinking that maybe they
will get a little extra for some of the things if they
go into the auction or make it to the "Nearly New
Table." Unfortunately that will not happen this
week - I was robbed!
Who are you people? You read the local paper to
know when the sale is happening and then cruise
around picking and choosing. If I wanted you to
have those items I would have put your name on
them or given them to you personally. I didn't, so
therefore you stole them. In so doing, you have
stolen my ability to support the hospital. You
know as a small community we have struggled to
have our hospital survive in very challenging times
over the last number of years.
The rummage sale is
another way for the
community as a
whole to make this
happen.
Who are you peo-
ple? Are you the
same ones who
"donate", or should I say
off-load your garbage to the rummage
sale? This is not a day to get free garbage pick up!
It is very disappointing for the volunteers to have
to sort through your garbage in an effort to put
together a well organized sale for the community.
Again I ask, who are you people? Are you the
same ones who "donate" expired, half -eaten, open
packages of food to the Christmas Bureau?
Another group of volunteers spend two weeks try-
ing to make Christmas a little nicer for fellow
members of the community and are disheartened
when this kind of thing happens.
We are lucky to have the pool of citizens who
continue to volunteer for community betterment,
when they are constantly being bombarded with
disappointment. They rise above it.
If you are reading this paper to see what other
community event you can ruin, I sincerely hope
you are feeling foolish and embarrassed!
DEB CAMPBELL, Exeter
