Musical performance — South Huron District High School (SHDHS)
held its annual "Cabaret" fundraiser was April 19 and April 20, wowing a
fullhouse in two performances.Above, Danika Stoner plays flute, while

Mike Mann and Jessica Poulton play the trombone."Cabaret" supports
the extra -curricular music program, with funds this year helping to offset
some of the costs of the bands' trip to MusicFest Nationals in Ottawa
next month. Performances were given from every band in the music
department, from Grade 9 to senior students, featuring the concert
band, combo jazz, big band jazz, chamber groups and solo performances.

UCW rally focuses on caring for the earth

Church in Kirkton on Sun.,

GRANTON - The Kirkton-
Woodham Optimists held
their Annual Fish Fry at the
Community Centre on Sun.,
April 27 with a huge crowd in
attendance.
Several from the Granton
area enjoyed the spring lun-
cheon, sponsored by the
Hillcrest Rebekah Lodge of St.
Marys, held at the
Presbyterian Church hall on
Mon., April 21.
Hyde Park UC sponsored a
ham supper on April 23
which was well attended.
Clandeboye WI held their
semi-annual dessert euchre
at the church hall on Tuesday
afternoon, April 22. Prizes for
euchre high scores were
awarded to: Bill Dixon and
Mary Van Geel, for lone
hands to Alice Hodgson and
Marj Park, and for low scores
to Betty Murphy and Gwen
Lynn. Numerous door prizes
were also drawn.
At the Granton -Wesley UC
on Sun., April 27 Catherine
Dodds and Maddie Cook lit
the Christ candle. Pastor Paul
Vollick led the service and
baptized Keira Mae Ingram
and Joshua Lambourn. The
Scripture readings were from
John 14 and 1 Peter 3. The
message was entitled
"Behave Like a Person In
Love." Time was shared with
the young people of the con -
April 27 Rev. Dalice Sim cele-
brated the Holy Eucharist
and the message was about
"Seeking Spiritual Guidance
From God." Brent Blackler
read the Lessons.
UCW rally
Granton -Wesley UCW host-
ed the annual North East
UCW Regional Rally at the
church on Tues., April 22
with an attendance of 45 peo-
ple. Dessert and coffee were
served at 7 p.m. by Granton -
Wesley and Zion ladies were
in charge of registration.
Anne White, who is a vol-
unteer from the Middlesex
Presbytery Resource
Centre, had items for
sale and gave a book
review on the theme,
"Walk Gently, Step
Lightly On Thee Earth."
The regional vice-
president Helen Conway
welcomed everyone and
the program began with
a hymn sing led by April
Bryan and Shirley
Mullenix. The
Presbyterial president
Barbara Sutherland
brought greetings and
gave information about
upcoming events.

which she had written. Bev
Slater from Union Church
introduced the guest speaker,
Rev. Matthew Stevens from
London Conference who
expanded on the theme of
being better stewards of the
earth. Rev. Stevens was
thanked by Jean Bradley of
North Nissouri.
Thorndale UCW received
the offering and gave the
courtesies and invited every-
one to the 2009 rally. Lynn
Ardiel of Zion closed with the
benediction.
