Seaforth volunteers needed
SEAFORTH - The
golf season is just a few
sunny days away from
starting up and golf
enthusiasts in the
Huron -Perth area are
in for a rare treat this
summer with the
appearance of a pro-
fessional golf tourna-
ment.
The Canadian Tour,
a professional golf tour
that has helped launch
the careers of many
PGA Tour pros such as
Mike Weir, Richard
Zokol, Steve Stricker
and others, will make a
rare appearance in
rural Ontario on its
cross -Canada tour this
summer, with the
Seaforth Country
Classic Aug. 25-31.
The organizing com-
mittee, headed by
Carolanne Doig, hopes
to sell 15,000 tickets at
$20 each for the event,
with half of the ticket
proceeds going to eight
hospitals in Huron -
Perth counties.
The committee has
established a goal to
raise $1 million for the
Huron -Perth Hospital
foundations through
ticket sales and spon-
sorship funding over
the next three years.
Each $20 ticket enti-
tles the patron to
attend all seven days of
play at the tournament
and each ticket will be
placed in a draw for a
number of prizes
including a new car.
To stage the profes-
sional tournament, the
organizing committee
requires a number of
volunteers from the
golfing and communi-
ties at large to perform
a variety of tasks from
driving golfers to
venues, to crowd con-
trol and scoring.
Volunteers are need-
ed for a variety of posi-
tions including:
• Marshalling - mak-
ing sure people are still
and quiet during play;
• Score posting - post
leaders names and
scores;
• Parking - helping
players, caddies, volun-
teers and fans find
parking;
• Starters - announc-
ing players on first and
tenth tees;
• Attendance/security
- gate and fan control,
ticket selling and tick-
et -taking;
• Scoring - walking
with players and
recording official
scores;
• Registration - vol-
unteer, player, caddie
and pro -am registra-
tion;
• Driving range -
keeping players
stocked with balls for
pre and post round
practice;
• Walking standard
bearers - carry score
board for 18 holes;
• Pro -Am - commit-
tee needed to organize
Tuesday pro -am event;
• Caddy master -
helping to co-ordinate
caddies;
• Transportation -
helping players get
from hotel or billet to
course.
The work of volun-
teers will ensure that
funds going to the eight
hospitals in Huron -
Perth will be maxi-
mized.
Volunteers will be fed
and an appreciation
party will be held Sept.
20 at Seaforth Golf
Club, where all volun-
teers will be treated to
golf, a meal and enter-
tainment.
For golf enthusiasts
who would like to be
an integral part of the
tournament experi-
ence, some pros will be
looking for a caddy and
while experience is an
asset, a training course
will be offered to those
interested.
Also a number of
caddies will be
required for the
Tuesday Pro -Am event
and experience is not
required.
Anyone interested in
helping out in any way
is asked to report to a
volunteer drop-in
meeting at the Seaforth
Golf and Country Club
on Saturday from 2 to
6 p.m.
For information
about volunteering or
tickets call 522-0985,
e-mail info@seaforth-
countryclassic.com or
