In the year-end tour- nament in Brampton April 11-13, the team captured the gold medal in the `B' divi- sion which followed the same team's success last year in the C divi- sion. With a 5-1 record at the tournament, Lucan beat Twin Centre 6-3 in the final game that saw an explosive start with three Lucan goals in the first six minutes of play. But Twin Centre was not prepared to give up the pinnacle position on the podium so easi- ly, having just won the top prize in the league final tournament, in which both teams played all year, held in Vaughan the previous weekend. With two goals in the second period, Twin Centre narrowed the gap but that was pried open again early in the third by two Lucan goals. The relentless Lucan attack proved too much for Twin Centre who managed one more goal before Lucan fin- ished the scoring late in the third period. In the quarter -finals, Lucan came out on top 2-1 in overtime against Russell and 2-0 against Niagara Falls in the semi-finals. The tour- nament proved to be a showcase for the devel- opment of the Lucan girls that had taken place all year. Coach Rick Secco said with the players' will- ingness to take respon- sibility for preparation and their play, the Lucan bench staff allowed them to steer their own ship into port and they did so admirably. The team ended up with a 31-14-7 record on the year which included a silver medal in a tournament in Brantford and a bronze medal in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League. Six of the losses dur- ing the season were against teams that were later re -catego- rized to a higher BB division.
