Decrease plastic bag use and improve the environment
By Mary Peterson
CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT
CENTRALIA - It was a wonderful, warm day on Sun.,
April 13 when people gathered for worship at Centralia
United Church, which was lead by Peter Gummow lay
minister for Centralia -Zion West pastoral charge.
Peter welcomed everyone and read the announce-
ments. He invited everyone to participate in the call to
worship. Rikki-Lee Skinner lit the Christ candle. The
opening hymn, accompanied by Marjorie Johns, was Be
Thou My Vision.
The children's hymn was One More Step Along the
World I Go. Peter met with the children before they left
for Sunday School and they talked about how God, like
a map or a compass, helps everyone find their way.
Peter's sermon was entitled "Road Map to God." One
of the illustrations from his sermon included a man who

BLUEWATER — On April 7 a
vehicle was stopped for speeding on
Airport Line in Bluewater. The 17 -
year -old Exeter youth lost his
licence for seven days and the vehi-
cle he was driving was also
impounded for seven days. The

saw a plastic bag in a tree and he began thinking about
how to decrease the use of plastic bags in his home.
This led to other changes in his life to help the environ-
ment. With the celebration of Earth Day this week, we
should all think about small changes that we can make
to improve the environment, including switching from
plastic bags.
Everyone joined in the hymns Christ Is Made the Sure
Foundation and Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehovah.
Brent Caslick read the minute for mission which was
a very interesting story about the impact on a communi-
ty from fisherman switching to plastic baskets for their
catch. Eventually, they realized that woven reed baskets
were more beneficial, and they returned to the woven
baskets.
