Canada repeats again as amputee hockey world champions
NEW ENGLAND - The day after
watching Canada's Sledge Team win
world championship gold, Canada's
National Standing Amputee hockey
team accomplished the same feat, on
the same ice.
"It's something that you never get
tired of" said Team Canada captain,
Don Wade. "Winning four in a row
is something very special, certainly a
feat not many hockey teams can say
they've done."
Canada opened the tournament
April 2, with a 9-0 win over Finland
and then followed up with a 9-0 win
over Latvia on April 3rd.
The final round robin game was
played April 4 against Team USA,
seeing Canada win a spirited affair,
4-1.
April 6, Canada again faced team
USA, with the Canucks claiming the
gold medal in a crowd pleasing
match that ended with the score 6-2
in our favour.
The Sledge Hockey World
Championships in Marlborough was
held in conjunction with the United
States Disabled Hockey Festival and
featured Disabled Hockey Teams
from all across North America, as
well as, both the Canadian and
American under -18 Standing
Amputee Hockey Teams.
The result ended up being an
undefeated week for Canada, as the
Under -18 squad defeated the
American's in two exhibition match-
es also held on the weekend.
