Queensway's volunteers care and make a difference
HENSALL — Queensway held a volun-
teer appreciation afternoon Sunday with
message and music by Bob Heywood.
We were so pleased to be filled almost to
capacity with the wonderful people that
share their time and talents with not only
Queensway but numerous other facilities
and organizations.
Queensway administrator, Kathy
Holdsworth opened the afternoon by
speaking about the spirit of gratitude we
develop over the years for relationships
as we experience losses and changes that
come with aging.
Volunteers appreciated
For many people living life in a pur-
poseful way, desiring to make a differ-
ence and helping others is the road to ful-
fillment and peace. Kathy thanked
everyone present for making a differ-
ence at Queensway by sharing their
gifts of care and friendship.
Bob Heywood sang his amazing
repertoire of songs throughout the
afternoon while refreshments of fresh
fruit trays, cake, punch, tea and cof-
fee were served. Draw prizes won:
"Chicken Soup For the Volunteer
Soul" books - Jim Scott and Mona
Alderdice. Humming Bird Feeder -
Miny DeVries. Springtime potted
plants - Betty Brand and Bill Flynn.
Dinner for Two at Carol's - Joan
McCallum.

finished with some energetic use of a

HENSALL - At Hensall United
Church, service began with welcome
and announcements and the passing
of the peace. The sermon was "In
His Righteousness" Service closed
with benediction and choral amen.
At Carmel Presbyterian Church
Rev. Andy Meinen was the minister
with Joyce Pepper playing the
organ. Al Hoggarth and Frank
Varley received the offering. Rev.
Ken Knight conducted communion
service assisted by Al Hoggarth and
Harry Moir.
Come out and enjoy the April meal
at the Hensall Drop -In on April 17 at
Hensall United Church. Lunch will
be served at 12 noon. Following
lunch, we will be hearing from Trish
about "First Link". Come on out for
the fellowship and great food. We
welcome all local individuals to this
luncheon. The cost is $6 per person.
If required, transportation can be

on Mon., April 14.
The Hensall and Community
Horticultural Society will hold their
April meeting on Mon., April 14 at
7:30 p.m. at Hensall United Church.
The guest speaker will be Anna
Peterson of St. Marys. She will
demonstrate how to arrange a bou-
quet for presentation at a flower
show. Everyone is welcome to
attend this special meeting. Lunch
and a social time will follow.

with the legion women kept everyone
occupied in the afternoon. Massage ther-
apist, Lori Burt was greeted Monday by
the many residents who look forward to
her services.
Queensway's volunteer auxiliary met
Tuesday morning and welcomed Edna
Deitz back from her Florida holiday and
Rita Van Wieren back from her convales-
cence. The busy April calendar was pre-
viewed with the women offering their
assistance where needed. In the after-
noon Rev. John Trembulak of the
Dashwood Lutheran Church lead wor-
ship. Residents commented that they
appreciated his great message and the
fact that his old time preachers voice has
no need of our sound system.
Volunteer Donna Smale organized the
euchre games Wednesday afternoon.
Thursday the retirement residents hosted
a `lunch and learn' event with Barry
McCarthy, a volunteer with the Arthritis
Society who presented "Facts on
Arthritis" to retirement and community
seniors. The session ended with an infor-
mative question and answer period fol-
lowed by sweet treats, cheese and crack-
ers, and coffee.
Lisa Stewart, music therapist lead her
small music group as well as the Rhythm
for Life drumming group. The drumming
group is quickly turning into a favourite
program.
The tuck/library cart made its rounds
Friday afternoon as residents returned
their books and checked out new offer-
ings. It's nice to see residents accessing
this service. In the evening Friendship
Friday drew a good crowd as residents
gathered to hear the unique music of
Andy and Friends.
