Help support Kirkton United Church's fundraising day Sat., April 26

THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT
THAMES ROAD - There was a prelude of music before
the church service at Exeter UC.with Rev. Paul Ross of
Exeter in charge. Rev. Paul lit the Christ candle, gave
words of welcome and the announcements.
Rev. Paul led in the invitation of worship responsively.
"Approaching God in Prayer" was read in unison.
The hymn See The Morning Sun Ascending was sung.
Mr. Fred Knip read a story to the children about "Jewel
and the Star Fish" and they listened to a choir of people
from another country on C.D.
The ministry of music Midnight Star was played by
Dave Robillard which was much enjoyed.
The Old Testament Lesson Amos 5:21-27 was read by
Peter Gummow.
The Sanctuary Singers sang Fill - A Me Up Choplin
accompanied by Anne Spivey on the piano and directed
by Bob Robillard.
The New Testament Lesson Matthew 7:7-11 was read
by Peter Gummow.
Brent Caslick spoke a few words about the Food Grain
Bank which began 14 years ago and also introduced the
guest speaker Fred Knip. Fred spoke on CFGB in
Pakistan (`Food For Work Project') and showed pictures.
Murray Dawson thanked Fred and gave him a gift.
Murray also spoke about "Growing Project Hosts"
Wayne and Marj Tuckey, Peter Tuckey, Keith and
Sandy Strang, and Brent Dawson.
Everyone sang the hymn The Church is Wherever
God's People.
Rev. Judith Ritchie gave prayers of thanks and con-
cern.
Ken Coates, Murray Johns, Brad
Lightfoot and Larry Shapton received
the offering with prayer by Rev.
Judith.
Everyone sang the Doxology. The
closing hymn In loving Partnership
We Come was sung.
Rev. Paul, Peter and Rev. Judith all
said the benediction and Rev. Paul
said the grace before the people went
downstairs for a chili luncheon pre-
pared by the outreach committee. The
closing chorus Go Now in Peace was
sung.
The South Huron Growing Project
members are Centralia -Zion West
pastoral charge, Thames Road -
Elimville United Church and Exeter
United Church.
The greeters at the doors were Jerry
and Alice Maclena, Marion Skinner
and Olive Ferguson.
Dave Robillard is an active freelance
percussionist and clinician in
Southwestern Ontario.
Announcements

Central Huron Secondary are
researching the 1950s to create a
website about the music, historical
events and the fashion of the decade.
If anyone has any garments from the

Centralia United Church Roast Pork supper with scal-
loped potatoes, etc. on Sat., April 19 at the church, 4:30

April 26 at Kirkton-Woodham Community centre 8:30
a.m.- 2 p.m. Proceeds to support Kirkton United

The Westminster weekend will be held April 11-13 at
Stoneridge Inn Conference Centre, London.
The Summer Event will be held on July 19 at Siloam
UC London.
The Christian Education Committee are planning a
bowling party for April 26 at 7 p.m. at Zurich Bowling
Lanes. If you are planning to attend please let Karen
Geiger Jayne Rowcliffe know by April 20. They will be
returning to home for prizes and pizza.
The postponed April meeting of the standing commit-
tees and council meeting will be held tonight at 7 p.m.
and 8 :15 p.m.

sausage brunch will be served following the service.

Congratulations to Rich and Rebecca Heessels on the
birth of their second son Jake Edward at Stratford
General Hospital on March 29.
Congratulations to grandparents Ed and Joanne
Heessels and Barry and Melonie Miller, great grandpar-
ents, Ross and Pat Veal, and brother Cole Heessels.
Quite a number of ladies form this community attend-
ed the Zion West Church annual Ladies' Breakaway at
Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre on Saturday.
The ladies of the UCW catered for the lunch and fel-
lowship after the funeral of the late Gerald Ballantyne
on Monday afternoon at the church.
