Connon (December 11, 1923 - March 28, 2008) Respected math teacher at South Huron District High School, Exeter, from 1968 to 1986. Highly regarded by students and staff. Earlier careers as a real estate agent, stock broker, and forester. Worked as a lumberjack on the West Coast. Served with the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy in World War II. Possessed of a brilliant mind, he graduated from Pickering College with Honours, and attained his Bachelor of the Science of Forestry at the University of Toronto in 1949, also with Honours. He was a tough, determined man, and an independent thinker. He defeated cancer twice and rebounded from two strokes. Lifelong conservationist, skilled woodsman, keen hunter and angler, and nature lover. Born on a farm near Stouffville, Ontario. Devoted husband of Maude (Mingay) Connon, beloved father of Patricia (French), Jane, Hugh, and Matthew, and dear father-in- law of Doug (French), Tony (Fanelli), and Sabina (Wojcik). Loving grandfather of Nils, Leon, Nathan, Sara, and Ava. A dedicated family man to the day of his death. Dad, we will miss your sharp mind, and your relentless sense of humour. Wally resided in New Hamburg and was born 84 years ago in Stephen Township, Ontario. He was the son of the late William & Clara (Eckstein) Becker. Beloved husband of Helen (Walper) Becker whom he married August 24, 1949. Sadly missed by his daughters Bev & husband Frank Bowman of Toronto, Fran Becker & husband Joey Tominovich of Maryland, U.S.A., Jane & husband Grant Thompson of Oakville and Mary Lynn Becker of Windsor. Beloved husband of Estelle (Vaillancourt) (St. Germain) Ballantyne of Sudbury. Loving father of Kevin (wife Leslie) of Kitchener, Darren (wife Stacey) of London, Steve of Exeter and Susanne of Surrey, B.C. Special grandfather of Justin, Tamsyn, Ashlynn, Geoff and twins Mathew and Kailey. Also survived by step -sons Maurice St. Germaine (wife Natalie) Justin and Eric of Sudbury, Daniel St. Germain (wife Jenefer), Ashley and Kitiara of Calgary and Steve St. Germain of Ottawa. Sadly missed by his brother Ross (wife Alma) and his sister Helen (husband Eric Kints) all of Exeter. Son of the late A. Roy and Beatrice M. (Knight) Ballantyne. Gerry was born and raised in Exeter, Ontario. He worked for many years as a funeral director at the Lougheed/Jackson and Barnard Funeral Homes, retir- ing in 2005 due to his failing health. A skilled embalmer, Gerry was dedicated to the funeral profession. He was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather. Gerry will always be remembered as a quiet and thoughtful man whose dry sense of humour was appreciated by all. Friends called at the Jackson Barnard Funeral Home, Sudbury and thence to Haskett Funeral Home, Exeter where the funeral ser- vice was held on March 31, 2008. Rev. Judith Ritchie officiated.
