The Times Advocate, 2008-04-02, Page 15Wednesday, April 2, 2008 Times -Advocate 15 Another "Awesome Auction" Granton community extends sympathy Lucan fundraiser — Lucan Area Heritage and the Donnelly Museum host- ed the 10th Annual Awesome Auction at the Lucan Community Memorial Centre last Saturday, raising about $8,500 which will go towards the new Donnelly Museum.While numbers are down a bit, Heritage first vice-presi- dent Jackie Martens said Heritage has been doing a lot of other fundraising for the museum, so "we're quite pleased" with the fundraising. She added the sod turning on the new Main Street museum could go ahead in about three weeks,weather permitting. The funeral was held at the Haskett Funeral Home in Lucan on Tues., March. 25 with Pastor Paul Vollick officiating. Interment at Granton Cemetery. The Fort Rose Maple Syrup Festival and din- ner near Nairn was a big attraction on Sat., March 29, and very suc- cessful. At Granton -Wesley United Church on Sun., March 30, Pastor Paul Vollick led the service and the message was entitled "Energize Me!" John Scott lit the Christ candle. The Scripture reading was from John 20. The ministry of music by the choir was In My Heart There Rings a Melody. Time was shared with the young people of the congrega- tion. Annual dinner well attended The annual chicken barbecue was well attended at the Kirkton- Woodham Community Centre on Sun., March 30, sponsored by the Granton -Wesley United Church. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sun., March 30, Rev. Dalice Sim led the ser- vice of morning prayer. The Scripture readings were from Acts 2, I Peter 1, John 20 and Psalm 16. Kate Henry read the Scripture Lessons. The message was about liv- ing in fear after the death and resurrection of Jesus. POLICE BRIEF SH man fails breath test SOUTH HURON — Members of the Huron OPP stopped a vehicle on Main Street in Exeter March 28, after the vehicle was observed travelling significantly across the centre line of the road. After approaching the driver, the officer detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, and he admitted to consuming alcohol earlier. The officer made a demand for the driver to provide a roadside breath sample. The dri- ver complied and the result was a fail. The driver was arrested for driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in his system, and was transport- ed to the Sebringville Detachment where he was taken before a qualified Breathalyzer technician took two suitable breath samples. The readings confirmed that the driver was operating the motor vehicle above the legal limit of 80 milligrams. A 62 -year-old South Huron man was given a 90 -day licence suspension and his vehicle was towed from the scene. He will appear in Exeter Court June 26 to answer to one count of driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol. Keith Lewis was the minister, his sermon was "The Eighteenth Camel". Rob Cameron was the organist. Judy Kyle looked after the nursery. Service closed with commissioning, benediction, and choral amen. At Carmel Presbyterian church service began with God's Greeting. The opening hymn was "The Strife is Over, The Battle Won", followed by the call to worship and prayer of confession. The Scripture les- son was from Luke 24:13-33. The sermon was "Just Like A Saviour". Rev. Andy Meinen was the minister with Joyce Pepper playing the organ. The morning began with refreshments, followed by Jan Andrews showing slides and telling what perenni- als to use to bring colour to your garden. Pam Sangster thanked the speaker for her informative talk. Lunch was served at noon. Heather Wind -Mulder was the afternoon speaker. Heather explained how Seeds Of Diversity operates and shared many interesting facts about the program. Pam Sangster thanked Heather for her message. Many of the group won door prizes, and everyone went home with a gift bag supplied by local business- es.
