Church service
on Sun., April 6
By Mary Peterson
CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT
CENTRALIA — It's here!
Spring has officially
arrived! Have you
noticed? Many people
haven't yet taken note,
and that's understand-
able. Unfortunately the
official arrival of spring
hasn't changed our cold
winter weather. We'll
hope that one
of these days
it does bring
warmer weather along
with the recent sunshine.
As you may have heard,
this year Easter was very
early on the calendar.
Good Friday was celebrat-
ed with worship at Zion
West United Church on
March 21. Peter Gummow
led worship which includ-
ed Scripture readings
from John 19 and Luke
24.
Worship included a time
to reflect upon the cruci-
fixion with readings and
symbols placed on the
cross. Margaret Hern,
Steven Allen, Faye, Larry,
Mikayla and Mikenzie
Skinner, Susan Gummow,
Brent Caslick, Judy Mills,
June Miller, Marine
Jacques, and Rob Essery
participated in with spe-
cial readings.
On Sun., March 23,
worship at Centralia
United Church was a joy-
ous occasion. Rev. Alun
Thomas led worship, and
welcomed many friends
and family members who
were visiting. Brad
Skinner provided activities
for the many children dur-
ing part of the service.
The beautiful Easter
lilies were placed in the
sanctuary by Mrs. Jean
Palmer in memory of the
Hepburn family.
Marjorie Johns provided
piano accompaniment for
the hymns which included
"Jesus Christ is Risen
Today" and "Thine Is the
Glory. The choir sang
"Christ Arose".
The Scripture Lesson
was John 20, verses 1-18.
Rev. Thomas sang a song
which he had written per-
taining to the scripture
and explained its mean-
ing.
Rev. Thomas invited
everyone to join in the
Sacrament of
Communion.
Worship closed with a
joyful
Easter
song.
Prayers and sympathy
of the community are
extended to the family of
Sam Skinner who passed
away last week. He was a
valued member of
Centralia United Church
for many years.
Everyone is reminded to
keep those who are ill,
experiencing difficulties,
or grieving in their
thoughts and prayers.
Contact Peter Gummow,
Ray Mills, or Ivan Hern to
arrange a visit.
On Sun., March 30, the
Community of Local
United Churches (CLUC)
will join in worship at
Centralia United Church
at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is
invited to participate in a
wonderful worship of
songs and scripture. A
light lunch will follow the
service.
The Foodgrains Joint
Church service will be
held Sun., April 6 at 10:30
a.m. at Exeter United
Church. Fred Knip will be
guest speaker. A chili
lunch will follow. Zion
West and Centralia United
Churches are asked to
provide cookies. Please
contact Brent Caslick for
more information.
Centralia United Church
invites everyone to a Pork
Dinner on Apri119 from
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets
are available from the
Stewards and cost $13 for
adults and $6 for children
ages 6 to 12.
