Zurich Bantams go to game five P;o;g°`"g
ZURICH - Before a full
house at the Bluewater Centre
in Zurich over the weekend
the Zurich Thunder took the
ice for a two -game home stand
versus Ops in the All -Ontario
fmals in the `E' division.
Going into game three on
Saturday the teams were split
with one win apiece.
Saturday's game started with
Ops scoring first but Zurich
answered before the end of
the first to even things at one
apiece with a goal from Colton
Becker.
During the second period
Zurich seemed nervous play-
ing in front of a full house and
let two unanswered goals get
past them.
Going into the third Zurich
had their work cut out for
them to get back in the game.
On a breakaway pass from
Greg Cooper, Nick LaPorte
tucked the puck into the back
of the net through the five
hole, bringing Zurich within
one.
Shortly after, another shot by
Becker found its way past the
Ops netminder to even the
game again with three goals
each to send it into overtime.
Both teams were tight defen-
sively and the game ended in a
3-3 tie, forcing an automatic
game five.
On Sunday Zurich came out
strong with LaPorte getting
them off to an early 1-0 lead.
The building was electric
with a standing room only
crowd rooting the Thunder on.
The game was going well for
Zurich into the third but a few
minor injuries and the physical
part of the game took its toll
on the players from both
teams.
Ops had too many offensive

opportunities and tied the
game up.
With only a few minutes left
in the game Ops managed to
score again to give them the
lead for the first time in the
game.
With only seconds left on the
clock Zurich pulled the goal -
tender for a last ditch effort to
tie it up again but time was not
on their side.
Zurich heads to Port Perry
on Saturday for game five at
4:30 p.m.
If Zurich wins, it brings the
series back to the Hensall
Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m.
EXETER - The South Huron
Panthers boys hockey team are
off to Ottawa April 2-5 to com-
pete in OFSAA.
The Panthers clinched their trip
to OFSAA by winning the WOS-
SAA `AA' gold medal March 20 at
the Clinton arena.
In the semifinal game, the
Panthers came out strong, play-
ing a physical game which even-
tually wore down their opponents
from Glencoe Secondary.
Backed by great goaltending
from Kyle Masse, the Panthers
went on to defeat the number
one seed from the Thames Valley
region 5-2.
Scoring for the Panthers were
Justin Anstett with two and sin-
gles from Kalvin Thornton,
Shayne Mudge and Brett Oud.
The victory set up a final
against rival F.E. Madill from
Wingham, as they defeated
Strathroy Holy Cross 8-1 in their
semifinal match -up.
In the much anticipated final,
both teams came out strong play-
ing a physical game.
It was a back and forth game
through the first two periods with
both teams getting some quality
chances on the power play.
Once again, Masse stood tall
making several great saves to
keep his team in the game.
With nine minutes left in the
third period, captain Justin
Buchanan forced a turnover in
the neutral zone and went in on a
two -on -one with Anstett.
Buchanon fed Anstett a pass
and Anstett beat the Madill goal -
tender for the eventual game
winning goal.
Great forechecking and strong
defensive play held off the Madill
attack late in the game, and the
Panthers celebrated their first
trip to OFSAA in six years with a
1-0 victory.
