Big Brothers Big Sisters SH doing better
EXETER — The upcoming Big Brothers
Big Sisters South Huron (BBBSSH) Bowl
for Kids in Lucan Sunday will help the
organization continue to recover from
financial problems it had earlier in the
year, says BBBSSH president Kate Monk.
Monk said BBBSSH has a goal of
$20,000 through their Bowl for Kids
campaign and they've reached $9,000.
The group had to temporarily
shut down operations earlier in
the year due to a lack of funds.
Monk says the overall BBBSSH
No flooding
expected
EXETER — Flooding prob-
lems in the area shouldn't be a
major concern, according to
Ausable Bayfield Conservation
Authority (ABCA) water and
planning manager Alec Scott.
Scott said although there is a
high moisture level in the snow
this year, if tempatures rise
gradually and it drops again at
night there shouldn't be a
problem.
He added there is also a lot of
ice in the snow that could cre-
ate run-off problems if there is
a sudden and dramatic
increase in temperatures.
Scott says he doesn't expect
temperatures to climb fast
enough to create flooding prob-
lems over the next week or so.
fundraising goal is $75,000 and she's
optimistic they'll be able to add the
funds raised from the Bowl for Kids to
that.
Monk says the money they've raised
already has allowed them to bring sup-
port staff back so all programs are run-
ning again.

TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — The proposed Ausable
River Drain has been cancelled
after a hearing Feb. 27, according
to a report given to members of the
Ausable River Conservation
Authority (ABCA) board of directors
March 20.
Water and planning supervisor
Geoff Cade told the board ABCA
staff attended the hearing of the
drainage referee where it was
determined there was insufficient
petitioner support for the proposed
drain and its estimated cost of
$225,000.
Cade said further hearings will
probably be held to address the
costs of the failed petition, although
the ABCA will not have to pay any-
thing.
In other business, general manag-
er/secretary treasurer Tom Prout
briefed the board on the first edi-
tion of the Conservation Ontario
electronic newsletter which will
provide information every two
months on Ontario's 36
Conservation Authorities.
