Road project goes to tender

SOUTH HURON — Council has autho-
rized road superintendent Ken Bettles
to proceed with the tendering of the
proposed reconstruction for Albert and
Anne streets.
Betties presented drawings to council
at the March 17 regular council meet-
ing. Also in attendance were some
Albert Street residents who had
expressed concerns about certain
aspects of the reconstruction at a previ-
ous council meeting.
B.M. Ross did the design work for the
project and Bettles said the municipali-
ty tried to address as many of the con-
cerns of the public as possible.
Two of those concerns were the

potential loss of trees and the sidewalk
on the east side. While the municipality
agreed to shave 0.5 metres off the
width of the new proposed road to keep
the sidewalk, six of the trees have to be
removed, although they will be
replaced by new trees at the end of
construction.
South Huron Mayor Ken Oke noted
it's tough to keep everybody happy in
situations like this and the municipality
is "saving what we can." He credited
the roads department with doing a
good job throughout the project.
Another concern for the road is snow
removal. Bettles said one of the com-
promises in keeping the sidewalk on
the east side of the road is that some of
the snow may be piled on residents'

LONDON — A former Exeter area and Lucan man
was acquitted in a London Court March 18 of the slay-
ing of Londoner Ronald Sullivan.
Ron Kirk, 27, testified against his cousin, Londoner
Donald Earhart, 33, who was found guilty in Sullivan's
death, taking and leaving his remains to a small South
Huron wood lot on Park Road.
Sullivan, 42, was reported missing Oct. 15, 2004, his
naked and decomposing body not found until April 26,
2005.
Kirk and Earhart were charged May 2, 2005, with
first-degree murder.

Earhart slit Sullivan's throat while also stabbing him
to death.
Earhart was sentenced to life with no chance of

Earhart has a long criminal record, and was acquit-
ted for the murder of Londoner Jamie Williamson in
