Lucan couple are Young Leaders
LUCAN — In the 25th
year of the Young Leader
Program, a Lucan couple
will represent Ontario
and Canada after being
selected recently as 2008
Young Leader partici-
pants.
The program identifies
and cultivates the produc-
er leaders who are shap-
ing the soybean industry.
It is sponsored by the
Ontario Soybean Growers
(OSG) and Pioneer Hi -
Bred International Inc., a
subsidiary of DuPont
Canada.
Hugh and Krista
Dietrich, with their three
children, farm 2,000
acres south of Lucan on
Roman Line and operate
their own elevator with a
rotation of corn, soybeans
and wheat.
Hugh is also a member
of the Middlesex Wheat
Producers Board.
Hugh and Krista were
the only Canadians who
attended a leadership
training program in
Nashville Feb. 26 -March
1 that coincided with the
Commodity Classic
Conference and Trade
Show.
The selection process
for the Young Leader pro-
gram involves an applica-
tion, open to all soybean
growers across Ontario
and an interview with a
panel of industry repre-
sentatives.
The program offers the
opportunity for partici-
pants to enhance their
leadership skills as well
as to meet and learn from
other Young Leaders
from across North
America.
"The Young Leader pro-
gram is an exceptional
leadership training pro-
gram," says Leo
Guilbeault, chairperson of
the OSG.
"This is a tremendous
opportunity for partici-
pants to learn about per-
sonal growth and leader-
ship and network with
fellow producers."
The second phase of
training will take place at
Pioneer's Headquarters in
Johnston, IA, in early
December.
OSG partners with the
American Soybean
Association and DuPont
to offer the program.
2008 marks the 25th

sentatives of theYoung Leader program, which devel-

anniversary of the pro-
gram which was devel-
oped to recognize farm
leaders that display lead-
ership and enthusiasm
within agriculture and in
their farming practices.
Hugh said the training
is designed to develop
each person's leadership
style and how to lead
other people and get the
most out of them.
"There is no right style,"
said Hugh. "To get the
most from everybody you
have to recognize differ-
ent style.
"It's a great opportunity
for networking and alot of
it can be used on your
own farm," he added.

There is never enough donated kidneys to
meet the demand. Living kidney donors can live
out their life very well with only one kidney. There
is no increased risk of heart problems in those
with one kidney compared to those with two. Live kidney donation is
a most generous and unselfish act.
PSA tests are used to determine the health of the male prostate
gland. Elevated readings could signify the presence of cancer in the
prostate. Before getting your PSA test done, it's good not to
ejaculate for 24 hours prior to the test. Otherwise the reading could
read a bit higher then it would be otherwise.
In Holland, there has been a five-year extension to experimental
marijuana program. It is prescribed for many situations of intense
pain. Ironically, most people who use marijuana don't use the
government supply because of the higher cost.
In Canada, marijuana products (cannabanoids) are considered
4th line treatments for neuropathic (nerve -oriented) pain. There is a
marijuana -based oral spray marketed for severe nerve and cancer
pains. It's available on prescription.
