Zurich will face the winner of the Bobcaygeon-Ops semifinal. Since beginning playdowns at the end of January Zurich has contin- ued a winning streak of eight straight games. Zurich beat Normanby three straight for the WOAA title before playing North Muskoka in the semi- finals. Zurich took game one Feb. 24 at the Bluewater Arena in Zurich, with a 3-0 win and the shutout for goalie Josh Groot. March 1 in North Muskoka, the series continued with game two being a nail biter. With five minutes remaining in regulation time and trailing 2-0, Zurich captain Nick LaPorte led the charge with the first goal for Zurich. Then Chris Ducharme caught a breakaway opportunity and put the puck in the top of the net to bring the score even at two. Zurich wasn't satisfied with a tie so they continued with pressure and with less than a couple minutes left in the game Laporte scored another to put them ahead and finish the game off with a 3-2 win. March 2 they took the ice again in North Muskoka and Zurich started off strong with Ducharme putting Zurich on the game sheet early and they were up by two goals before the end of the first. However North Muskoka was not ready to give up and came back fighting and managed to tie the game up by the end of the second. Midway through the third a couple Zurich defenceman joined in the pressure on their goalie and LaPorte banged in the go-ahead goal fol- lowed by Greg Cooper's goal to add some insurance. Zurich finished the third game with some great defensive play and never gave the other team another opportunity to get near their net. However they would not be mov- ing on to the All -Ontario finals with- out everyone's effort both on and off the ice, especially the outstanding goaltending by Groot who has con- sistantly kept Zurich in the running for the All Ontario.
