The St. Peter's 135th anniversary celebra- tion will be held July 12-13. July 12 features an evening of local entertainment, while an outdoor mass will be celebrated July 13 at 10:30 a.m. fol- lowed by Iunch.You can enjoy this opportunity to view historical displays, reminisce and renew old friendships.There will be various activities for chil- dren.To accommodate everyone, advance registra- tion is recommended. Hopefully Spring is just around the corner! The Jamboree hosted by the Stan Lee Club that was cancelled on March 5 will be rescheduled for Wed., April 9 at 2 p.m. Everyone welcome!! Mark your calendar! World Day of Prayer was held in Varna church last Thursday with Varna, Goshen, Kippen and Brucefield ladies attending. Piano pre- lude by Mary Moffat and a welcome from Leader Deb Rathwell. Deb made a few announcements and mentioned all 4 UCWs were taking part in the service. They were Carol Simons, Sjoukje Steenbeek, Edith Swan and Jean Rathwell. Special music was by Joyce Dowson, Deb Rathwell and Mona Stephenson. They sang 'The Old Rugged Cross'. The World Day Of Prayer was written by a com- mittee in Guyana. Carol Simons spoke on her experience in Guyana. She visited poor, middle class and upper class families while there and shared many of her experiences there as well as their culture, food, way of living etc. Following the service the UCWs divided into groups for short meetings. Thank yous were read from Gail Dowson and Ella Bonnie Roy's Mark your calen- dar for Thurs., April 3 at 4 p.m. Worship on Sunday in Varna was led by Lay Worship Leader Gloria Wilbee. Gloria spoke to the Young at Heart on 'Dry Macaroni and Dry Bones'. Gloria also shared her gift of music and played her guitar and sang a solo 'My Tribute'. Church will be in Goshen Sun., March 16. You are reminded to plan on lunch following the ser- vice as there will be a hot dog luncheon with a lovely dessert and beverages will be included. This will be free will offering with all proceeds to go to Camp Menesetung. Board Meeting in Varna ,Wed., March 13 at 8 p.m. Mark Mon., March 17 on your calendars and help us celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a pot luck supper. It is to be held at the Varna Complex at 6 p.m. Bring our own utensils, plates, etc. Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be provided. There will be fun and games for all. Also new this year is an Irish Stew Challenge for the men. For more info contact Sandra at 263-5350. This celebration is sponsored by the Stanley Rec Committee. Everyone is wel- come!! This year, the Carry on Cloggers present 'Hit The Road' on Sun., April 13 with two shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to be held at the Blyth Theatre. Congratulations to Elmer and Norene Hayter on the occasion of their 67th anniversary on March 8. Unfortunately due to the stormy weather the dinner planned was on Sunday. I won- der what the weather was like 67 years ago? VARNA NEWS Fifth annual fundraiser - Country Corners Rent -All held its Fifth Annual "Mike Lightfoot Fun Run" March 2. Over 100 sleds par- ticipated in the fundraiser, in memory of Mike Lightfoot who lost his battle with cancer in 2004.Above from left are Roger Gerber, Country Corners mascot "TC," Jamie Hern and JJ Hern.This event raised over $3,000 in donations for the Saint Elizabeth Health Care Foundation to help provide caregivers support to local people with cancer and their families. Lightfoot received care from Saint Elizabeth's Health Care when he was ill. Saint Elizabeth Health Care, a Canadian not-for-profit charitable organization celebrates 100 years of home and health care support with three million visits annually.
