Full-time Skilled Tradesperson The Avon Maitland District School Boards invites applications for a permanent full- time skilled tradesperson. The skilled tradesperson shall perform maintenance duties in a safe and productive manner in school buildings as directed by Facilities Administration. Duties may include: • plumbing repairs and upgrades; • boiler repairs and trouble shooting; • preventative maintenance to all building mechanical systems, heating ventilation systems, repairs and upgrades; and, • procuring required parts and inventory and cost control. The ideal candidate will possess: • valid drivers license; • provincial certificate of qualification as a Plumber, and a Gas Fitter #2 licence; • 5 years experience in one or more of the above trades in addition to apprenticeship work requirements; and, • initiative and ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment. You will provide exemplary leadership and supervision for a staff of 70 employees working a 24/6 shift environment. Evening and weekend work will be required in the spring and fall seasons. Preferably, you will have at least 2 years post secondary formal education relat- ing to operation management with at least 10 years of supervisory experience in an agri-related production business. (photo/Nina Van Lieshout) By Nina Van Lieshout TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF EXETER — McCarter's Creative Countertops in Exeter, which focuses "strictly on laminate custom countertops," according to owner Larry McCarter, is open. The business, which McCarter runs with 11 years of experience under his belt, is a one-man show, with McCarter assisting the customer from start to finish. McCarter's Creative Countertops offers 190 differ- ent colours which McCarter showcases at his shop. After choosing the initial colour, McCarter, who has been in the Exeter area his whole life also installs the countertops. McCarter says "the turn around is very quick from order dates to installation time," adding it is usually around two weeks. Although this is McCarter's first business, he says he has gained a lot of experience over the years and is excited to finally have his own business. "It's something to give back to the community," says McCarter, adding, "I'm also hoping to expand in the near future." McCarter is open Monday to Friday.
