26thAnnual Has-Beens HockeyTournament Feb. 29
By Carmel Sweeney
ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH - Our community extends sincerest sympathy
to the family and friends of Mary Walker -Thiel, who
passed away suddenly on Tues., Feb. 19, due to a car
accident. Our thoughts are especially with her husband
Hub Thiel.
Also to the family of the late Louise Church (wife of
Bruce) whose funeral was in Zurich on Saturday.
A youth cafe for high school students is being held for
six weeks at St. Boniface Parish Hall every Wednesday
evening from 7 - 9 p.m. which will be led by other young
adults.
The cafe style gathering will run until Wed., March 19.
Everyone is welcome to come out and bring a friend.
Lions Club
The Lions Club will be having their next meeting at
Erb's on Feb. 27 beginning with supper at 7 p.m.
The Lions are still collecting your old un -used eye
glasses that they send away to the missions. There is a
box at Erb's to put them in.
Synchro skating
The Exeter Synchronized Skating Club held a `friends
and family night' at their arena on Sun., Feb. 17. It was
really good and it featured other skaters from their club
as well.
The Exeter Classique Masters Synchro team recently
finished third at the Bernie Deveau Competition in
Chatham in February, and they also brought home the
Memorial Trophy. We wish them the best of luck at the
Bert Winfield Competition corning up in St. Mary's in
March. Their coach is Melissa Hendrick.
A bridal shower was held for Kim Geoffrey recently
(daughter of Steve and Patty) at the home of her fiance
Ted Hoffman, Dashwood and his mother Anne -Marie.
The couple are planning to be married in March.
The Bean Festival committee put on a great fun
evening at the Zurich Complex Feb. 16 - the Hall was
decorated with a Valentine theme for the "Laugh Out
Loud" comedy show which was good, clean funny enter-
tainment. There were three different comedians that
kept us laughing with their jokes and stories. This was
a great way to get rid of winter blues.
A large crowd attended from Zurich and various
places such as Detroit, Michigan. Once again it was a
job well done by those in charge.
Carmel recently returned home from a lovely nine day
vacation with a group of 18 people from the Grand Bend
area. My partner was Jeannette Wales on A Western
Caribbean cruise for seven days. We flew from Detroit
to Tampa to Board the Carnival Legend (what a beauti-
ful ship). Several from our group were already in
Florida for the winter months - so we met them in
Tampa The weather was in the 80's everyday and the
water was really calm (thank God).
The islands we visited were Grand Cayman, Cozumel,
Belize and Ratan Honduras. We sure saw a lot of inter-
esting places.
It was also a big surprise to run into Betty and Jerome
Geoffrey from Tillsonburg who were also on the same
cruise (a brother to Kevin in Zurich).
Thanks to Joe Borg and his wife Gerry of Grand Cove
Estates who arranged all the trip and made sure we all
had a good time.
Ray and Karen Mathonia and family recently spent a
week in Florida and went to Disney World.
Rob and Lisa Pedlar and two children enjoyed going to
Florida for two weeks recently, also going to Disney
World.
Ken and Roxanne Brideau of Zurich along with her
brother Greg and julie Overholt of Exeter had a great
week's holiday together in Panama City recently.
Roxanne came back with a nice tan.

cial music by Monica Doherty on the piano.

after lunch. See the bulletin board at the post office for
more information. Call Kay Hay to attend 236-4632.

tie comforters for two days that will be donated to the
