The girls have just recently returned home from the International Silver Stick in Trenton as gold medal champions. The girls started the tournament strong by downing Mississauga 5-0. The girls' next game was against division rival, St. Marys. The girls came out a little flat in this game but played excellent team defense and ended the game with a 0-0 tie. After some much needed rest, back at the hotel, the girls bounced back with an excellent effort as they scored early and went on to beat Napanee 5-0. The girls were in good position to advance to the finals and finished off their round robin play by beat- ing Woodstock 3-0. The win put Lucan in 1st place going into the finals against archri- val, St. Marys. Lucan continued their excellent defensive play by beating St. Marys 3-1 in the hard fought finals. The girls played excellent team defense allowing only one goal against in five games. Hawks down 2-0 in series EXETER - The Exeter Hawks will try to get back into their series with the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs this weekend when they host the Bulldogs for a pair of games Friday and Saturday at the South Huron Rec Centre at 8:30 p.m. The Hawks are down 2-0 in their first round series with Mt. Brydges after 8-4 and 9-2 losses to the Bulldogs on the weekend. Saturday night in Mt. Brydges, the Bulldogs were ahead 3-1 after 1-0 period with Brandon Dymond getting the lone goal for the Hawks with the Bulldogs replying with one of their own. Mt. Brydges took over in the second period with four more goals and Dave Geoffrey getting one back for Exeter as Mt. Brydges led 7-2 after two peri- ods. The Hawks got closer in the final period with Jake Jeffrey and Justin Young getting power play goals to make it 7-4 before the Bulldogs put the game away at 7:45 for the 8-4 final score. Sunday afternoon in Mt. Brydges, the Bulldogs took charge early with three goals in the first period, despite Exeter outshooting them 17-12 and Mt. Brydges led 3-0 after one peri- od. The Bulldogs fired two more in the second period before Jeffrey got the Hawks on the board with two power play goals for a 5-2 Mt. Brydges lead going into the final period. The Bulldogs put the game away in the third with four goals for the 9-2 win. Laura Gehan is a hard working dedicat- ed forward, she is a good checker and has scored some pretty big goals this year. Stats: 7 goals, 7assists for 14 points and 14 minutes in penalties. Brittany Parker is the leagues top goalie. What she lacks in size she makes up with her speed. She is a tough competitor and a dedi- cated teammate who never misses a game. (photo/submitted) Irish up 1-0 onThamesfordTrojans LUCAN - The Lucan Irish will attempt to take a 2-0 lead in their first round series against the Thamesford Trojans tonight (Wednesday) at 7:45 p.m. when they host the Trojans. Despite the fact that the Trojans finished over 20 points ahead of the Irish with a 27-11-2 record, Lucan took game one of the series Friday in Thamesford with a6-3 win. Chris Van Kasteren gave Lucan a 1-0 lead at 3:19 of the first period before the Trojans replied with two goals before the end of the period. It was all Lucan in the sec- ond as they scored three unanswered goals from David Latta, Alex Regan and Nick Engel for a 4-2 lead going into the final period. The Trojans got within one goal at 5:58 but two goals from Bob Martin at 13:42 and 18:56 put the game away for Lucan. Game three of the series is Saturday in Thamesford at 8:30 p.m. with game four Feb. 27 in Lucan. Mohawks down 3-1 to Winterhawks EXETER - The Exeter Mohawks will try to force game six in their first round series against the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks Feb. 22 when they visit Saugeen Shores down 3-1. The Winterhawks took a 1- 0 lead in the series Feb. 8, and the Mohawks were down 4-1 with 12 minutes to play. Exeter roared back to tie the score at four and send the game to overtime where Shaun Clinton scored the 5-4 winner for Exeter to even the series.
