EXETER — Plans are
underway for the 2008
Huron SPCA Dinner
Auction, to be held on Fri.,
May 30, at the South
Huron Recreation Center
in Exeter. Over the past
three years, with tremen-
dous support from the
community, this event has
raised over $166,000 for
the animal shelter. With
the new, more suitable
location, adoptions have
tripled and cruelty com-
plaints have multiplied,

animals than ever before.
Kate McKenzie, who has
chaired the event for the
past four years, says that
half of the tickets are
already sold. At this rate,
McKenzie anticipates that
the event will be sold out
by April. She urges any-
one who is interested in
attending to buy tickets
now. Tickets are available
at the SPCA Shelter in
Goderich, from Kate
McKenzie 236-4044, at
Baillie's Picture Framing
in Grand Bend and at
Exeter Animal Hospital in
Exeter 235-2662.
`This event is crucial for
the survival of the animal
shelter in Huron County',
stated Wendy Reid,
branch coordinator/agent
of the Huron SPCA. 'What
many people may not
know is that the SPCA
does not receive any
Government funding for
our shelters and that in
spite of the generosity of
the local veterinary clinics,
our veterinary bills alone
total over $40,000 annual-
ly. Any money that we
raise in Huron County
stays here to help the
neglected, abandoned and
abused animals in this
area.' Reid urges people

tion and the animals look-

Event co-chair, Liam
Brennan of Exeter, says
that the committee is look-
ing for some new mem-
bers to join the committee.
'Now that our auction has
doubled in size, we are
looking for additional vol-
unteers to help out with
the event. Right now, we
need people to assist us to
get donations for the Live
and Silent Auction. Closer
to the event, we need
workers to help with set-
up and work the night of
the event. This is a great
opportunity for students to
get community hours.
Anyone with questions or
who is interested in join-
ing the committee should
contact Kate McKenzie at
