TA up for
two awards
TORONTO — The Times -Advocate
learned last week it has been named
as a top -three finalist in two awards
to be handed out by the Ontario
Community Newspapers Association
(OCNA).
Reporter Nina Van Lieshout is a
finalist for "Best News Story" for her
coverage of the Bill and Helene
Regier murders in July, while editor
Scott Nixon is a finalist for "Best Spot
News Photo" for his picture of a
house fire in Centralia in June.
Final placements will be
announced at the OCNA Better
Newspaper Competition Gala in
Toronto in April.

GRANTON – The area community
Lenten Lunches was held at Lucan
United Church on Wed., Feb. 13 at
noon. Father Vincent Van Zutphen
of St. Patrick's Church was the
speaker. The Lenten Lunch will be
held on Feb. 20 at the Living Hope
Church in Lucan.

Church
At the Granton -Wesley United
Church on Sun., Feb. 17, Pastor
Paul Vollick led the communion
service and the message was enti-
tled "That doesn't count!" The
scripture readings were from
Genesis 2 and 3 and Matthew 4.
Mary Waters gave the Minute for
Mission and Maddie Cook lit the
Christ Candle. The ministry of
music by the choir was Amazing
Grace/My Chains are Gone. Time
was shared with the young people
of the congregation.
Flowers were placed in the
church from the funeral of Lee
Wyatt, son of Stan Wyatt.
St. Paul's Anglican
There was no service at St. Paul's
Anglican Church in Kirkton on
Sun., Feb. 17. It was withdrawn
because of the Scouting movement
service which was held at the
Kirkton-Woodham community
Centre at 10:30 a.m. and led by Bill
Denham.
Don Atkinson gave the message
about being honest, wise and hum-
ble. Music was provided by local
musicians. Refreshments of hot
dogs and chili followed the service.
It was noted that Agnes Denham
and son Cameron will be going to
Madagascar in August to help with
digging wells and building a com-
munity centre, which will serve as a
school and a church, as well as a
shelter.

added "Stickin' to His Guns," a recently released book about Huron -Bruce
MP Paul Steckle,written by Huron -Bruce resident Greg McClinchey, to the
extensive national collection held by the Library of Parliament. McClinchey,
above right, who is a North Huron councillor and the Huron -Bruce federal
Liberal candidate, was on hand for the presentation in the historic Main
Branch of the Library of Parliament."It is always nice to see that people are
enjoying your work, but to have my writing added to the national collection
at the Library of Parliament is a once-in-a-lifetime recognition. As someone
who has worked on Parliament Hill for a number of years, I
am truly honoured to have my work added to the archives

NAVIGABLE WATER PROTECTION ACT
R.S.C. 1985, CHAPTER N-22
The Corporation of the County of Huron hereby gives notice that
an application has been made to the Minister of Transport
pursuant to the Navigable Waters Protection Act for approval of
the work described herein and its site and plans. Pursuant to
Section 9 of the said Act, The Corporation of the County of
Huron has deposited with the Minister of Transport, and in the
office of the District Registrar of the Land Registry District of the
County of Huron at Goderich under deposit number 345229, a
description of the following work, its site and plans: repairs to
the bridge carrying County Road 83 traffic over the Ausable
River, 4.5 km east of Main St (Exeter) in the Municipality of South
Huron, for 50m either side of the river.
Comments regarding the effect of this work on marine
navigation may be directed to: The Superintendent, Navigable
Waters Protection Program, Transport Canada, 100 Front Street
South, Sarnia, Ontario N7T 2M4. However, comments will be
considered only if they are in writing and are received not later
than 30 days after the date of this notice. Although all
comments conforming to the above will be considered, no
individual response will be sent.
