HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Times Advocate, 2008-02-20, Page 7Wednesday, February 20, 2008 Times—Advocate 7 Officers chosen for the Women's Missionary Society LISTOWEL — The Presbyterial of the Huron - Perth Women's Missionary Society held their annual meeting in Listowel on Feb. 4. They were welcomed by the Rev. John Zondag on behalf of Knox Presbyterian Church, and Ethel Corry on Behalf of the Listowel W.M.S. groups. The W.M.S. Purpose was repeated in unison. The president, Bernice Richards, Stratford, presided. The theme for the day was Spiritual Gifts, based on the scripture from Ephesians 4. Annual reports Annual reports were given by the following Presbyterial secretaries: Mary Scott, Ruth Hart, Ruth Laing, Lillian Sparling, Elizabeth Stewart, Helen Dunseith. Ruth Dewar gave the report of the nominating committee. The officers for 2008 were installed by the area education consultant, Rev. Anne Yee -Hibbs also introduced the study book, comparing the natives of Guatemala with the Aboriginals of Canada. Her bible study was based on the parable of the gold coins. Ruth Hart reviewed a number of books from the Presbyterian Bookroom. (3 games) Bert Bachert 430, Joe Stephens 394, Theo Vandenboom 440. cooking with memories BY DEBBY WAGLER PINEAPPLE CARROT CAKE THIS IS AN AMAZINGLY MOIST CAKE THAT PEOPLE JUST LOVE TO EAT! YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT IT IS FULLY COOKED BY DOING THE CAKE TESTER —COME -OUT -CLEAN TEST BUT IT HAS WONDERFUL FLAVOR AND IS A GREAT KEEPER! FREEZE IT IN SMALL PIECES TO ENJOY A BIT AT A TIME! 3/4 cup each brown and white sugar 2 cup all purpose flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 3/4 cup cooking oil 3 eggs 2 cup finely grated carrot 1-19 oz. can crushed pineapple with juice (slightly drained) 1 tsp vanilla Mix dry ingredients together. Add rest of ingredients in order given. Mix slowly to moisten. Beat for 2 minutes. Spread in a greased 9 by 13 inch pan. Bake in 350 oven 40-45 minutes or till a toothpick comes out clean. Cool and frost with Cream cheese icing. Cream Cheese Icing 1 pkg cream cheese 4 cups icing sugar 1/4 cup softened butter or margarine 2 tsp. vanilla Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl and beat slowly to mix and then till light and fluffy began with a rousing sing -song led by Shirley Aitcheson and Eunice Bisset. Devotions on the theme of Spiritual Gifts, prepared by Jean Aitcheson, were given by Evelyn Mattison, Anis Innes, and Shirley Aitcheson. The In Memoriam was conducted by Lois Horne and Audrey Rutherford in honour of 12 members who were deceased in 2007. Pennies for Patrick Jean Sangster spoke on the "Pennies for Patrick Project", reporting that Rev. Patrick now has five orphans, and will soon have five more whose par- ents are dying with Aids in Malawi. Members were encouraged to keep saving pennies for Patrick. Goderich W.M.S. received and dedicated the offering. Bernice Richards conducted the business with the secretary, Nancy Schneider, and the trea- surer, Elizabeth Stewart, giving reports. The next executive meeting will be in Mitchell on April 7, at 1:30 p.m. Monkton has the devotions and Stratford Knox will bring the cookies. The 2008 Synodical will be held in Owen Sound on April 22 and 23. The afternoon programme concluded with a humorous skit, `Spiritual Gifts', put on by the executive. Lois Horne gave courtesy remarks and closed the meeting with prayer.
