Only a few spots left for provincial workshops
HURON -PERTH – Huron/Perth will host one of six of
the Provincial "Growing Your Opportunities - Value
Plus" workshops this winter and Grey/Bruce will host
another.
Are you looking for or do you
have a business idea for your
farm? Not sure how to make your
idea a reality? Local stakeholders
along with the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
(OMAFRA) have successfully
secured two of six workshops
offered throughout the province this winter through
the Canadian Farm Business Management Council
(CFBMC).
Workshop with Gary Morton
Over two days, the participant will identify their spe-
cific value-added idea, put their idea into action, find
the right market channels, build a business plan,
explore how to finance the stages of the business,
price the product properly and manage risk. Led by
one of Canada's key value-added trainers, Gary
Morton of Morton Horticultural Associations, partici-
pants will learn from Gary's enthusiasm and years of
experience helping farmers evaluate new market
ideas and bring them to reality.
Implementing business ideas
The Value -Plus workshops build on the success of
the "Growing Your Opportunities" Farm and Food
workshops which were launched across the
province in 2005. "Taking the workshop series
to the next step is a logical approach as farmers
are looking to implement business ideas that
are marketable, profitable and contribute to the
long term viability of the farm operation", says
Jane Muegge, regional information co-ordina-
tor with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture,
Food and Rural Affairs located in the Clinton office.
Limited to only 25 registrants per location, interest-
ed participants are encouraged to register as soon as
possible. Through the generous sponsorship of the
Canadian Farm Business Management Council and
local stakeholders including Huron County, Huron
Business Development Corporation, Huron East
Chamber of Commerce, Municipality of Huron East,
Federation of Agriculture, Perth CFDC, The Local Area
Training Board and TD/Canada Trust, Saugeen
Economic Development Corporation, Bruce
Community Futures, the two day course is being
offered at a low rate of $75 per participant.
Registration includes two fun -filled days of learning,
work -book, related print resources, refreshments and
lunch.

`Bowl for Kids' fundraiser starts
EXETER — The Big Brothers Big Sisters of South
Huron (BBBSSH) 28th Annual Bowl for Kids Sake
fundraiser is under way.
BBBSSH is requesting that the public support
the cause by making a donation or gathering
pledges and having a ball knocking a few pins
down. This year's theme is "Summer Days" — so

the lanes for a chance to win prizes and to raise
money for a great cause. By spending some fun
time bowling, you'll ensure that young boys and
girls in our community who need a mentor and a
friend will have someone they can count on.
There are many different ways to participate in
Bowl for Kids Sake — make a donation directly to
the agency or create a bowling team with friends,
family, or co-workers, collect pledges and bowl.
To make your effort go even further, you can chal
lenge your employer to match the amount of your
pledges.

Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2, 2 to 4 p.m.
at the Zurich Town & Country Bowling Lanes with
