GODERICH — To celebrate
Heritage Week 2008, the Huron
County Museum will be open for
extended hours this Saturday from
10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to allow visitors
to explore their own local history.
Not only are hours for the day
extended but admission to the
museum for the Heritage Week
Open House is free.
The Heritage Canada Foundation
has chosen the theme for 2008 as
"Work that Endures: Careers in
Built Heritage." Built heritage sites
are the buildings, monuments and
structures that are considered as
significant due to their architecture
or history.
This year the people who help
maintain, promote and teach about
these sites are cel-
ebrated. Whether
trades people,
educators, profes-
sionals or volun-
teers, all con-
tribute skills and
knowledge to
restoring, research-
ing, maintaining and
teaching about her-
itage places.

of the county's heritage. Learn about Joseph Herbert
Neill, who started the museum in 1951 with his own
personal collection of artifacts. Explore the 1856
Central School which is home to the museum. Stroll

The museum's special temporary exhibit on display is
"A Stitch in Time: Quilts from the Huron County
Museum Collection." The exhibit features almost 70
quilts from across Huron County dating from 1840 to
the present. The exhibit was put together by the muse-
um staff who have chosen heritage as their career; the
museum's intern who was investigating museum work
as a potential career; and our volunteers who spend
their time assisting with the continued work of the
Museum. For more information contact the Huron
