Hawks come up empty
EXETER — It was a rough week-
end for the Exeter Hawks, as the
team suffered two losses and
remains in last place in the Morenz
Division with a record of 11-26-1 for
23 points.
The Hawks started the weekend
on the wrong note Friday in
Mitchell, losing 7-5 in a high -scoring
affair to the Mitchell Hawks.
Mitchell opened up a 2-0 lead in
the first period on a pair of power
play goals before Exeter's Jeff
Smale scored twice to tie up the
game heading into the second peri-
od.
Mitchell took another lead early in
the second before Exeter took a 4-3
lead on two goals by Josh Wood,
including a shorthanded marker.
Exeter's lead would last into the
third period before Mitchell explod-
ed for four goals in seven minutes.
Wood completed his hat trick at
18:57 of the third, but it wasn't
enough as Mitchell won 7-5. Exeter
was two for 10 on the power play,
while Mitchell was an impressive
five for 11. Shots on net were also
lopsided in Mitchell's favour, with a
45-22 advantage over Exeter.
The Lambeth Lancers handed the
Exeter Hawks their second loss of
the weekend, defeating Exeter 5-1
in Lambeth Saturday night.
It was all Lambeth as they scored
five goals, including three short-
handed, before Exeter's Smale
scored the Hawks' lone goal late in
the third. Both teams were zero for
four with the man advantage, while
the Lancers outshot the Hawks 45-
19.
The Hawks wrap up their regular
season this week with a game in
West Lorne tonight (Wednesday),
with their final home date of the
regular season Friday at 8:30 p.m.,
when the North Middlesex Stars
visit.
