Business
study to be
presented
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
SOUTH HURON — The final report for
the `Business Retention and Expansion
Program' is set to be unveiled at a public
meeting Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Exeter
Legion.
South Huron Chamber of Commerce
president Hugh McMaster updated South
Huron council Monday night on the study
designed to identify the needs and prob-
lems of local businesses and help them
expand and thrive.
Spearheaded by McMaster and the
Chamber of Commerce, McMaster said
copies of the final report will be available
at the meeting. McMaster hasn't seen the
final report yet, but expects to sometime
this week.
He said the study is something that has
been done by many municipalities across
North America. People from all geographi-
cal parts and business sectors in South
Huron were interviewed for the study,
which focuses on economic development in
the community and how it can be
enhanced.
"We must look after interests in South
Huron," McMaster said, adding the com-
munity needs to set forth a goal and strate-
gy to develop its economic future.

RCMP Musical Ride proposed for Exeter
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAPP
EXETER — Mounties will paint the town
red in September if a proposal to have the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride
come to Exeter for three days is approved.
The popular ride, performed by a full troop
of 32 RCMP officers and horses, is proposed
to take place on the grounds of the South
Huron Rec Centre Sept. 10-12, with the per-
formances Sept. 11.
Organizers were hoping to get confirma-
tion from the RCMP this week that the show
in Exeter has been approved.
A meeting was held Sunday morning at the
Rec Centre with the organizing committee
and RCMP Musical Ride co-ordinator Sgt.
Marc Godue to go over some of the details.
Exeter's George Finch, whose idea it was
to bring the Ride to Exeter, said the Ride is a
"spectacular" event, with committee mem-
ber Dave MacLeod adding, "it's going to be a
great day."
According to the official website, the RCMP
Musical Ride "consists of the execution of a
variety of intricate figures and cavalry drill
choreographed to music. Demanding utmost
control, timing and co-ordination, these
movements are formed by individual horses
and riders, in twos, fours and eights at the
trot and at the canter."
The highlight of the Ride is "the charge,
when lances, with their red and white pen-
nons, are lowered and the riders and their
mounts launch into the gallop."
In addition to appearing in the Musical
Ride, the horses appear on Parliament Hill,
in parades and special events. The Ride
tours throughout Canada and the U.S.
The Exeter Lions will host the Musical
Ride, and Finch said the event will be all
about getting local youth involved, including
Scouts and Cadets. Local service clubs have
also been invited to take part.
The RCMP Musical Ride will arrive in
Exeter Sept. 10, with stables being set up in
