The Hawks hosted the Lucan Irish Saturday afternoon and came up on the short end of a 5-3 score before a 7-1 loss at the hands of Lambeth Sunday night. Saturday at the South Huron Rec Centre, Nick Engel and Alex Regan wrapped Lucan Irish goals around Exeter goals from Justin Cann and Paul Bowden for a 2-2 tie going into the second period. A shorthanded goal from Kevin Dean in the second period for Lucan and an unassisted effort by Justin Lightfoot put the visitors ahead 4-2 going into the final period. Jeff Smale cut the lead to one goal in the first minute but it was as close as the Hawks could get before Trevor Liddle sealed the win for Lucan with an empty net goal in the final minute. The Hawks went one for 19 on the man advantage while the Irish had one goal on the power play in four chances. Sunday night against the Lancers, Lambeth took a 2-0 lead in the first period before Bowden got the Hawks on the board early in the second period. But it was all Lambeth after that as the Lancers scored two in the second and added three more in the third for the 7-1 win. The Hawks have three games remaining before the playoffs, starting Friday when they visit Mitchell at 8:30 p.m. Exeter is in West Lorne Feb. 6 at 8:15 p.m. and has their final home game Feb. 8 at 8:30 p.m. Hockey Day Hawks president Phil Potter thanks everyone for coming out to the Country Corners Hockey Day on Saturday: "All the volunteers and players did a great job throughout the day and the employees of Country Corners did a fantastic job with the kids rides. "The day was a great success and we are already looking at plans for next year. "It was a pleasure for the Hawks to honor our South Huron Major Midget team on their success at the International Silver Stick Tournament. "Congratulations to Jeff Smale, one of our own local Hawks, for winning the $1,000 grand prize in the Hawks Elimination Draw. The ESC can prepare their skating for the sport of their choice, whether it may be hockey, ringette, or simply for fun and enhancing their social skills and self esteem, said McElwain. McElwain said, "Watch and listen as the skaters are coached through the different levels from Canskate to senior Elements. See how they go from a beginner to a gold level through stroking, dancing and free skating. Enjoy the intricate foot work of our synchronized teams as they glide across the ice. Thanks for your support. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show."
