There were over 200 members, leaders, parents, volun- teers and presenters in attendance. Over the course of the afternoon over 70 awards were presented to deserv- ing 4-H members from agricultural and life skill clubs Lucknow Dairy Club The Huron Holstein Club Awards were presented to the 4-H Dairy Club members with the first and second highest scores in the county who showed a holstein calf as their project. First highest score: Caroline McDowell with 898 points. Second highest score: Ryan VanOsch with 870 points. Awards were presented by Steve Hern, presi- dent of the Holstein Club. The Scotia Bank Award: Recipient Emily Van Osch, presented by Lynn Vollick. South Central Huron Dairy Club The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Huron County Branches, present an award for the 4-H Dairy member with the highest score in the county. Kora Bennett was the winner for 2007 with a score of 949 points out of a possible 1000 points. The award was presented by Barb Caldwell. Elliott Noxon Insurance Limited of Blyth donates a tro- phy to the Champion Dairy Calf at the Seaforth Fair. Recipient: Brad VanOsch. Presented by Deb Bennett. The Auburn Co-op Award (donated by the Auburn Co- op): Recipient Kora Bennett, presented by Melissa Sparling. The Huron Bay Co-op Award: Recipient Kora Bennett, presented by Darell Bergsma. D & D Glass of Vanastra donates a trophy to the Reserve Champion Show person at the Seaforth Fair: Recipient Jeremy Kresky, presented by Deb Bennett. Friends of 4-H Presentations During 1975 a fund was established to help provide assistance to the 4-H programs in Huron County. We wish to extend our sincere appreciation to the individu- als and organizations who provided their outstanding support of the Friends of 4-H fund in 2007. Some made cash donations to 4-H while others made an "in-kind" donation. Sodbusters The Graeme Craig Award: Recipient David Grobbink with 798.5 points out of a possible 1000. Presented by Graeme Craig. The Royal Bank Award: Recipient Laurie Grobbink, presented by Brian McGavin. The Townsend Tire Award: Recipient Jacob McGavin, presented by George Townsend. Ross Gordon Memorial Award: Recipient Brandon McGavin, presented by Barry Gordon. The Sodbuster Leader Awards First Award went to the member with the top land ploughed at the achievement program by a competitive plough: Recipient Frazer Falconer, presented by Brandon McGavin. Second Award went to the member with the top land ploughed at the achievement program by a non-com- petitive plough: Recipient Mike Pavkeje, presented by Barry Gordon. The Agvise Award (donated by Mike Hunter and Mery Erb) went to the member with the highest total points at the International Ploughing Match: Recipient Brandon McGavin, presented by Greg Boone. Goat Awards The Jan Hayward Award: Recipient Leah Vingerhoeds with a score of 898 points out of a possible 1000, presented by Heather Stark. The Rona Cashway Award: Recipient Vikter Colletta, presented by Joan VanSligtenhorst. The Gallagher Power Fencing Award (donated by Evert VanSligtenhorst): Recipient Katie Brady, present- ed by Joan VanSligtenhorst. The Paul Klopp Award: Recipient Raina Vingerhoeds, presented by Heather Stark. The Goat Owners of Huron Award: Recipient Leah Vingerhoeds, presented by Heather Stark. The South Sheep Club Outstanding Effort Award: Recipient Amber Brodie, presented by Deb Falconer. 4-H Project BookAwards 2007 was the inaugural year for the 4-H Project Book Award. Libro Financial Group of Wingham was the sponsor of this award. There were 40 entries with 12 prizes being awarded. The books were judged on com- pleteness, detail, creativity and extra effort. The follow- ing are the winners: Beginner (10-11 years old) 1st - Caroline McDowell, 2nd - Shannon Ryan, 3rd - Sydney Mcllhargey; Junior (12-14 years old) 1st - tie Zachary Drost and Brent Drost, 3rd - Jesse Kinsmen; Intermediate (15-17 years old) 1st - Kristina Drennan, 2nd - Crystal Blake, 3rd - Frazer Falconer; Senior (18-21 years old) 1st - Melissa Sparling, 2nd - Kora Bennett, 3rd - Nicole Moore. The Maple Ridge Beef Farm Award: Recipient Brad Maclntyre, presented by Paul Coultis. The Top Intermediate Show person Award (donated by Hometown Custom Builders): Recipient Rob Marriott, presented by Steve MacPherson. Exeter Beef Club- did not attend. Retiring 4-H member recognition In 2007, there were four 4-H members who retired from their 4-H careers. Brad Gilchrist, Erica Murray, Rosie Grobbink and Andrew Toll received certificates from Paul Steckle MP and Carol Mitchell MPP as well as a Graduating Seal from 4-H Ontario. Presented by Mr. Robin Dunbar (Carol Mitchell's office). Volunteer recognition The following were recognized for their contribution to the 4-H Program in Huron County in 2007: William Hendriks, Sue Marriott, Marita Oudshoorn, Sophie Jefferson and Margaret Vincent. Recognized for five years of 4-H volunteering: Deborah Bennett, Mary Ellen Foran, Barry Gordon, Andrea Hern and June Robinson. Recognized for 20 years of 4-H volunteer service: Joan VanSligtenhorst. Recognition of special projects: Ruth Ritchie, who created several projects for Huron County 4-H (`Let's Make Music' and `Snowmobile'). Open Awards Cargill Limited presented an award to the members of the winning team at the Huron County "Go For the Gold" competition: Recipients were Katie Sparling, Carrie Logtenberg, Caroline McDowell and Melissa Sparling. Presented by Margaret Vincent. The Watson Home Hardware Team Judging Competition Award: Winning team members were Kristina Drennan, Bethany Kresky, Brent Martin and Jillian Martin. Presented by Florence Pullen. Top Overall Judge Award (donated by CIBC, Huron County Branches): Recipient Raina Vingerhoeds, pre- sented by Barb Caldwell. Hill & Hill Farms Limited Award for High Junior Judge: Recipient Raina Vinghoeds. Presented by 4-H ambassador Stephanie Sargent. Cargill Limited Award for High Intermediate Judge: Recipient Crystal Blake, presented by Stephanie Sargent. Hill & Hill Farms Limited Award for High Senior Judge: Recipient Brad Gilchrist, presented by Stephanie Sargent. The Hensall District Co-op Top Novice Judge Award: Recipient Jillian Martin. The TD Canada Trust Award: Recipient Kayla Bishop, presented by Barb Horne. The Vincent Farm Equipment trophy goes to the club with Top Educational Display at the Seaforth Fair. Winner was the Huron Goat Club. Presented by Carmen Drost. Hensall District Co-op Top Exhibit of Winter Wheat Award goes to the Huron Sheep Club. Les and John Coleman of Kippen presented an award for Champion Haylage. The winner was the Huron Sheep Club. Presentation was made by John Coleman to Brent Drost of the Sheep Club. The Pickseed Canada Award for Top Exhibit of First Cut Hay went to the Huron Sheep Club. Presentation was made by Don Pullen to Jesse Kinsman of the Sheep Club. The Pickseed Canada Award for Top Exhibit of Second Cut Hay went to the Huron Sheep Club. Cook's Division of Parrish & Heimbecker Limited Trophy went to the club with the Champion White Bean Exhibit. Winner was Huron Sheep Club. Jeffery Gibson received and award from Kathryn Lambert. The Russell T. Bolton Memorial Trophy was presented to the Huron Sheep Club for the Champion Corn Exhibit. Art Bolton made the presentation to Frazer Falconer, member of the Sheep Club. The Monsanto Canada Award went to the top exhibit of soybeans. The winner was the Huron Sheep Club. Award was presented to Sydney Falconer, member by Stephanie Sargent. Club Secretary Book Competition Donated by Huron County 4-H Leaders' Association: 1st place-Jillian Martin, Lucknow Beef Club; 2nd place -Amber Brodie, South Huron Sheep Club; 3rd place -Leah Vingerhoeds, Huron Goat Club. 4-H Press Reporter Competition Sponsored by Signal Star Publishing of Goderich: 1st place -Zachary Drost, South Huron Sheep Club; 2nd place -Nicole Boyle, Lucknow Beef Club. The Ontario Ploughman's Association Award went to the most outstanding 4-H agriculture member: Recipient Erica Murray, presented by Graeme Craig. The Darrell Bergsma Award (new for 2007) was pre- sented to the member who exhibited dedication to the Huron County 4-H. Recipient was Nicole Moore, pre- sented by Darrell Bergsma. The Warden's Novice Award (donated by Deb Shewfelt, Warden of Huron County for 2007) went to the 4-H member who obtained the highest standing based on awards in Huron County. Recipient was Jillian Martin. Presented by Deb Shewfelt. The Don Pullen Award (donated by Don Pullen, former rep. for OMAFRA) went to the member who earned the highest number of points on the basis of their club work in 2007. Margaret Vincent of the Lucknow Dairy Club was the winner with 942 points out of a possible 1000. Don Pullen presented the award. The Murray Cardiff Citizenship trophy (donated by Murray Cardiff) is awarded to the top member in Huron County who best exemplifies the goals and aims of 4-H. Involvement in 4-H as well as community, their leader- ship roles, communication abilities and overall attitude is taken into consideration. The nominees must be Senior 4-H members. All club leaders were asked to nominate members from their club that they felt quali- fied for this award. The winner this year has contributed in some way to their 4-H club and their community. In their own way they have tried to put into practice what they think good citizenship means, making their community a better place to live. The nominees for 2007 were: Sara Baker, Erica Murray, Kayla Bishop, Kristina Drennan and Elliott Miller. The recipient of the 2007 Murray Cardiff Citizenship award was Kayla Bishop.
