Honda dealership
takes step forward
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
SOUTH HURON — The proposed Exeter Honda dealership is
moving forward with South Huron council passing first and sec-
ond reading on a rezoning application at Monday night's coun-
cil meeting.
As earlier reported, concerns were raised by municipal staff
at the Jan. 7 meeting for the proposed site for the dealership, at
the south end of town on the west side of Highway 4 on land
owned by Gerald and Jeanette McBride (across from Huron
Motor Products). Concerns included stormwater management
for the site and Highway 4 access for the dealership.
Penny Wilson, the owner of Exeter Honda, said at that council
meeting she was working on a tight deadline from Honda
Canada and needed the project to move forward soon or she
would instead open a dealership in east London. She also said
having direct Highway 4 access for her dealership is something
she has to have.
At Monday night's meeting, planner Claire Dodds spoke of a
Jan. 15 meeting between municipal staff, Honda and the
McBrides to address the concerns.
She called it a "good, productive meeting" and said the
municipal engineer's concerns regarding stormwater manage-
ment on the property have been addressed — Honda will do a
preliminary stormwater management plan for the site. Also,
the size of the property Honda is buying from the McBrides is
3.73 acres, while they only need 2.25, allowing for flexibility
regarding stormwater management. Dodds said Honda will dis-
play its building and products at the north end of the property,
as the stormwater issues are at the south end.
On Dodds' recommendation, council passed first and second
reading of a motion to rezone the property from Restricted
Agriculture to Highway Commercial — Special Provision. Third
and final reading will be passed after the county approves sev-
erance of the land.

ABCA general levy passes, but projects rejected
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's
project levy budget was voted down Jan. 17 at the monthly
board of directors meeting at the Morrison Dam Conservation
Area office.
The meeting opened with chairperson Bill Weber finishing
his term as chairperson and North Middlesex director
Lawrence McLachlan being selected chairperson for 2008 in
an uncontested election.
Central Huron director Jim Ginn was elected as vice chair-
person, also uncontested.
After the elections, the proposed 2008 general levy of $653,
300, an increase of $80,800 over 2007 which was $572,500,
was passed in a weighted vote.
Voting for the general levy, which passed with a 77 per cent
margin, were the municipalities of Adelaide -Metcalfe,

Middlesex Centre, Bluewater, Huron East, Lambton Shores,
North Middlesex, Perth South, Lucan Biddulph, Warwick and
West Perth with South Huron and Central Huron voting
against the motion.
The project levy of $276,545 was then voted on and failed to
pass with Bluewater, Central Huron, Lambton Shores, South
Huron and Warwick voting against it.
ABCA general manager/secretary treasurer Tom Prout said
the failure of the project levy to pass meant the board could
not vote on the proposed 2008 ABCA budget.
Asked what the reason was for Lambton Shores voting
against the project levy, Weber said the municipality is con-
cerned with the Port Franks ice management and erosion con-
trol project, budgeted for $26,380 in 2008.
Weber said Lambton Shores would like to know what is
entailed with the project and who the benefactors are.
Bluewater director George Irvin said his municipality is con -
