Exeter (5) versus
London Petitie C 6
Goals: Hodgert (3),
Verbeke, Heywood
Assists: Heywood,
Hodgert, Tait, McClinchey
Goaltender: Keys played
outstanding in net
Comments: The locals
played well, but had a
hard time holding the
larger London players
from going to the net, and
found themselves down by
four with nine minutes to
go. Exeter took advantage
of a four on four opportu-
nity and popped in two
quick goals, which gave
the girls the momentum
and took over control of
the ring. With less then
two minutes to play Exeter
came within one and with
the goalie pulled the
offence slammed the
London net, hitting the
post three times and the
ring landing on the goal
line twice. The coaches
were pleased with the
determination of the locals
and their play
throughout the
weekend, this was
a great warm-up
for Waterloo
Tournament this
weekend.

Juniors strong during league play
LISTOWEL - The
SHDHS junior girls vol-
leyball team travelled
to Listowel for league
play last week and fin-
ished the day success-
fully winning two -out -
of -three games against
opponents, Madill and
Listowel.
vs Listowel
The junior squad
found themselves up
against some very
tough competition
against Listowel but
rallied to take the first
two games, losing the
third game 24-26.
Nicole Insley, Teri
Stuckless and Linette
Melick led their team
with strategic serving.
Taelor Douglas again
played amazingly in
the setting position.
Captains Alyssa
Becker, Insley and
Stuckless shone on the
floor with Becker's
powerful serves and
spikes notching lots of
points.
Shaylyn Dwyer was
very powerful at the
net with spikes and
blocks.
vs Madill
Another tough team
to play against was the
Madill squad. Madill
always seems to have
very powerful middles
which the SH girls had
to get used to. South
Huron won the first
game 25-21, lost the
second 20-25 and
came back to win the
third one 25-23.
Taelor Douglas,
Nicole Insley, Alyssa
Sweitzer, Teri
Stuckless and Alyssa
Becker set the consis-
tent serving pace for
their team. Josie
McCann and Linette
Melick played strong
games in the middle
position while Marlee
Heywood shone in the
power position with
several digs and smart
shots. Jessica Brock
served strongly for her
team.
Again, the talented
combination between
Becker and Insley was
certainly a factor in
South Huron's wins.
Gina Phouttharath is
finding her niche in the
setting position and her
aggressiveness on the
court is a real plus for
the team.
Jaemi Douglas again
shone in the libero
position by cleanly
starting several attacks
for her team.
