HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Times Advocate, 2008-01-02, Page 10RONA CASHWAY 10 Times -Advocate Wednesday,January 2, 2008 Crediton WI members A $2,000 donation for Town and Country enjoy guest speaker CREDITON - Crediton Women's Institute mem- bers, spouses, families and friends enjoyed a delicious turkey supper Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Poppa John's Restaurant in Crediton with 15 mem- bers and 12 guests enjoy- ing the meal. After dinner, the group returned to the Crediton hall for the balance of the meeting. President Alma Davey welcomed all with a Christmas reading and presided for the business. Reports were given and a motion was made that Mystery Sisters be again named for 2008. The next meeting is Jan. 16 at the home of Lois Hodgins. The program committee was Anne Cottel and Lois Brownlee. Cottel read the "Story of The Christmas Tree" and "A Soldier's Christmas". Brownlee read a "Soldier's Story" and "At the Christmas Play". A contest "Name That Carol clue List" was won by Cheryl MacLeod. The guest speaker for the evening was Dave MacLeod. He told of his trip along with 34 stu- dents from South Huron District High School who went to visit Vimy Ridge last April, 2007. He explained with story and film the many places they visited and some of the fun things they did as well. Some of the places they saw were Portsmouth D. Day Museum, Juno Beach in France, Canadian War Cemetery, Dieppe as well as a side trip to the Eiffel Tower with shopping in Paris. MacLeod reminded us of the 73 Canadians that have lost their lives in recent times and remind- ed us to remember the fallen. He is also planning an adult trip to France this coming June. He was thanked with a gift of appreciation by Anne Cottel. Mystery, and men's gifts were handed out, and we then enjoyed a "show and tell." A time of fellowship and a light lunch were enjoyed to end the very pleasant evening. POLICE BRIEFS Over the legal limit BLUEWATER — I-Iuron OPP received a call from a witness indicating that he had found a driver and vehicle in the ditch near the intersec- tion of Airport Line and Zurich Hensall Road in Bluewater Dec. 14. Information received was that the driver of the vehicle was suspected to be impaired by alcohol. Officers arrived on scene to find the accused outside his Chevrolet S-10 pick- up with keys in hand opening his driver's door. The accused exhibited very obvious signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for impaired care and control. The accused was taken to the Huron OPP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath registering nearly three times the legal limit of 80 mgs. A 20 -year-old London man will appear in Exeter Court Feb. 28 to answer to one charge of impaired care and control and one charge of care and control over 80 milligrams. Exeter break and enter SOUTH HURON — On Dec. 26 between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m., suspect(s) entered a Thomas Street residence in Exeter and stole a Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and several music CDs. Suspect(s) entered through the back door of the residence. The view to this door is obscured from the road. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-T.I.P.S.
