Annual meetings planned in Varna

VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA - The new year for Stan Lee will begin with a potluck dinner at
noon sharp on Jan 9. Following the meal, a presentation will be made by sev-
eral students from South Huron High School who attended the Vimy Ridge
ceremonies earlier this year. Anyone in the community who would like to
hear their moving presentation is welcome to attend. It will probably start at
about approximately 12:30 p.m.
Darlene Babych has returned to Delburne after spending two weeks with
her mother Margaret Hayter.
Linda Keys lead the worship service in Goshen Christmas Sunday. Erin
Melo shared her gift of music and played her clarinet while her grandma
Anna Keys accompanied her on the piano for the prelude. The lighting of the
advent candle and the Christ candle was by Geraldine and Jack Eckel.
Thank yous were read from Norene and Elmer Hayter and also from
Margaret Hayter.
Linda Keys and daughter Leanee Colcoulgh compared Jesus and Santa
Claus and reminded all that Jesus is the `Reason for the Season'.
Linda Keys read a Story "I Remember Three Christmases".
The Varna Goshen choir led by Anna Keys presented a wonderful
Christmas cantata "The Miracle Of Love" with readers Erin Melo and
Maryanne Turner. Deb Rathwell presented Anna with flowers for arranging
and setting up practices so the cantata could be possible. This same cantata
was done in Varna 35 years ago.
Please ensure that all donations to the church for the year 2007 are hand-
ed in to your treasurer by noon Dec. 31. Annual meetings are in Varna Feb.
10 and Goshen Feb. 17. Year end reports will be due in mid January. More
information to follow.
Worship service will be in Varna on Sun., Jan 6.

Granton's annual vestry
meeting on Jan. 27

On Sunday, Dec. 23 at Granton -Wesley United
Church, Pastor Paul Vollick led the service. The mes-
sage was entitled "simple things of joy and love." The
scripture readings were from Isaiah 7, Matthew One
and Romans One. Edith Eaton read the Season of
Advent Passions of Christmas Stories. The Advent can-
dle of love was lit by Chelsey and Rachel Hayden and
Maddie Cook. The ministry of music by the choir was
entitled "The joy of Christmas." Time was shared with
the young people of the congregation.
The Christmas Eve service was held at 7 p.m. at
Granton -Wesley United. Pastor Vollick lead the service
of Holy Communion.
On Sunday, Dec. 30 at Granton -Wesley United, Cathie
Westman lit the Christ Candle. Pastor Vollick led the
service and the message was entitled "endings and
beginnings." The scripture readings were from Isaiah 6
and 3 and Matthew 2. Time was shared with the young
people of the congregation.
The annual Lucan ministerial choral sing has been
rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity
Anglican Church in Lucan.
St. Paul's Anglican Church
At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sunday,
Dec. 23, Rev. Dalice Sim led the service of lessons and
carols. The lessons were read by Garth Blackler, Becky
Hawkins, Fraser Urquhart, Kathy Blackler and Rev.
Sim. The guest organist was Alice Henry, and the
lessons were interspersed with carols.
The Christmas Eve service at St. Paul's was held at 9
p.m. Rev. Sim celebrated the Holy Eucharist and
George Burgin read the lessons. Silent Night was sung
in candlelight and the service was closed with Joy to the
World.
At St. Paul's Anglican on Sunday, Dec. 30, Rev. Sim
celebrated the Holy Eucharist. The message was that
Christ is like a candle, bringing light and life to the
world. Cathy Urquhart read the lessons.
The annual Vestry meeting is scheduled for January
27.

Polly is a quiet girl who is approximately
two years old. She is a polydactyl, meaning
.2.. she has more than the usual number of toes
on her paws. Polly came into the shelter as
a stray and must have spent at least one
winter outside because the tops of her ears
have been lost due to frostbite. She is a
sweet girl who loves to be near people.
