This cat won't be home for
Christmas
As I was leaving Exeter on Dec. 21, around 4 p.m., on Highway 4, heading towards
Hensall, I saw an oncoming car veer to miss something. As I approached where the
car had swerved, I saw a cat on the west side of the road beside the highway. I
quickly turned around in the hopes that it might still be alive and I could get
it to the vet.
As I rushed to the cat I saw it was dying. By the time I grabbed a towel to
wrap it in, the cat was dead. As I checked the cat over I saw it was a beauti-
ful little sealpoint siamese. I took her in my vehicle to various farms nearby
to try to find her owner so they would know what happened to their cat.
Nobody in the area owned the cat.
So in case this was your cat, I took her to the Thames Road Veterinary
Clinic to have her cremated. I didn't want you to be looking for your cat and
not be able to find her nor did I want to leave her on the side of the road.
To the person who hit this little doll, I can't help but wonder why you never
stopped?
If you are the owner of this cat, please call me to let me know. I would feel so
much better knowing she had an owner and hadn't been abandoned like so many
cats are.
Christmas story - gone?
As you drive by the Presbyterian Church, you might notice part of the nativity
scene vandalized and stolen.
For some, the significance of the story is minimal.
For others, it is very important.
But I would like to think for many, the
lack of respect, to take something from
the church, especially at this time of year
when thoughts are of giving not taking -
make this occurrence somewhat disturb-
ing.
In any event, the scene will soon come
down and not likely be presented again
as it is no longer complete.

Cute and colourful clothing found at Turnips

EXETER — Turnips Children and
Maternity on the Main Street of
Exeter, owned by Amanda Neilands
of the Exeter area, offers a wide
selection of second-hand and brand
new cute and colourful children's
clothing. Turnips also sells used and
brand new maternity clothing.
Neilands named Turnips after her
father Tom Glavin and his family,
who were Turnip farmers.
"They are great, wonderful peo-
ple," says Neilands.
The business, which opened in
December, began for a couple of
reasons. Neilands, who has two chil-
dren, three-year-old Cassidy and
one -and -a half -year-old Drew, want-
ed something in the area which spe-
cialized in children's and maternity
clothing. Neilands also says, "and I
like kids a lot."
She says the community response
has been "wonderful," adding "the
other businesses in the area are
helping me. They actually come in
and help."
The children's clothing comes in
sizes 0-14 (about Grade 8). Neilands
says she has received a lot of sec-
ond-hand clothing from the commu-
nity, which she in turn will pay for
if the clothing meets a couple of cri-
teria.
Neilands accepts brand name
clothing, current styles or gently
used items. She also accepts other
items like shoes, blankets and toys.
Neilands says sizes four and up
for both boys and girls are needed.
Neilands says her husband,
Regan, plans to begin creating per-
sonalized wooden nightstands for
children. They also plan to sell
sports equipment for children and
expand into baby swings, high
chairs and playpens.
Neilands is holding a grand open-
ing this month. A date has not been
confirmed.
