The year in review
EXETER — This week's Times -Advocate marks the last issue of 2007.
As we celebrate the Christmas season and look forward to 2008, in this
week's issue we also take a look back at the major headlines of the year.
No story in the T -A coverage area was bigger, or more tragic, than the
shocking murders of Bill and Helene Regier of Mount Carmel July 23.
After a nearly two-week manhunt, 22 -year-old suspect Jesse Norman
Imeson of Windsor was captured by police near Portage -du -Fort, Quebec.
Imeson was also wanted in the Windsor murder of 26 -year-old Carlos
Rivera, found strangled in Imeson's Windsor apartment July 19.
The community mourned as national and international media turned
their attention to the area, with "America's Most Wanted" sending a film
crew.
Imeson made his first appearance in Goderich Court Aug. 10, when he
was formally charged with the first-degree murders of the Regiers. He
had earlier been charged with first-degree murder in Rivera's death.
Imeson returns to Goderich Court Jan. 17.
Other stories in our year in review issue include:
• A new, three-storey, 49 -unit seniors' apartment is being constructed
by McCann Redi-Mix beside the Exeter Fire Hall.
• In October's provincial election, the Liberals held on to power, with
Huron -Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell keeping her job, defeating Conservative
and former South Huron Mayor Rob Morley and former Bluewater
Deputy Mayor Paul Klopp, also a former NDP Huron MPP.
• South Huron. Hospital embarked on a $1.6 million fundraising cam-
paign to raise money for upgrades including its electronic X-ray system
and renovations to the emergency department.
• Infrastructure was a big topic in the headlines, with the controversial
Crediton/Centralia sewer project going ahead, along with the new Lake
Huron water pipeline to Exeter and Hensall. Bluewater and South Huron
both decided to participate with Lambton Shores in the Grand Bend and
Area Sanitary Sewage Servicing Master Plan.
• Businesses in Huron Park continued to buy their property from the
province. Goderich Aircraft bought the Centralia Airport in April and offi-
cially renamed it James T. Field Memorial Airport in a dedication service.

South Huron Hospital
recognized for excellence
EXETER — The high quality of care provided by the South Huron
Hospital Association (SHHA) will be known across Canada after the hospi-
tal recently won an award of excellence for rural health care and
received full accreditation from the Canadian Council of Health Services
Accreditation (CCHSA).
The accreditation is a process by which a team of surveyors from the
CCIISA analyze the complete procedures of a health care organization
over a period of several days.
As well as talking to staff and observing the methods and quality of care
provided, the surveyors also ask questions of everyone involved in the
organization, including patients and members of the community.
The CCIISA compares the results to health care standards and provides
one of several levels of accreditation standards ranging from no award
presented up to full accreditation, with the SHHA receiving the highest
level possible.
The report will also recognize the SHHA for its work in active research
in the emergency department.
The CCHSA will announce the award in its annual Canadian Health
Accreditation Report which is published across Canada.
