Seminars provide informa- tion on the latest develop- ments in artificial limbs, advice on issues such as teas- ing, staring and future inde- pendence, and a forum to share concerns. Champs develop a "Winner's Circle" philosophy of overcoming their amputation and living life to the fullest. Cole is missing both feet. He and his brother, Noah, were featured in the Times - Advocate in June for their skating success. In the artificial limb session in Ottawa, Champs demon- strate their recreational limbs and devices. Cole showed his artificial legs, which have a Spongebob Squarepants design, and his "stubbies," which he uses for soccer. War Amps CEO and CHAMP founder Cliff Chadderton says seminars are invaluable to young amputees. "We war amputees call CHAMP the one good thing that came out of the war and, through seminars, we continue the formula of experienced amputees helping new ones that has proven successful for us for nearly 90 years," he says. A real CHAMP — Zurich's Cole Martin, seven, recently returned from a War Amps Ontario Child Amputee (CHAMP) seminar in Ottawa where he spoke about his arti- ficial legs, seen above, which have a Spongebob Squarepants design on them. Even though influen- za is already present in Ontario, it is not too late to be immunized. Medical Officer of Health Beth Henning says numbers are generally low across the county. She says the Health Unit is particularly concerned that health care institutions are reporting low coverage rates for health care providers. "It is critically important for health care providers to get the flu shot to protect their own health and the health of the clients they serve. Like washing hands, it's a way of ensur- ing infection is not spread. An indi- vidual can spread the influenza virus for 48 hours before personally expe- riencing symptoms." Henning says earlier reports that this year's vaccine is a poor match were premature. "This year's influenza vaccine is expected to be a good match. It would be unfortunate if earlier reports suggesting other- wise is the reason people are not getting their flu shot." Henning goes on to say that it's not too late to get a flu shot this year. While the community flu shot clin- ics are over, people can ask their health care provider for the free flu shot. They can also contact the Health Unit for Health Link clinic hours by calling 519-482-3416 or by checking the website at www.huron- county.ca/health Shuffleboard in Exeter Dec. 11 — 4 wins Constance Kernick 290, 3 wins Jim Davis 337, Don Overholt 274, Ray Hodgson 207, Cor Rood 205, 2 wins Jeanene Hayter 200, Bernice Boogemans 161 Dec. 12 - 4 wins Cor Rood 406, Geraldine Smith 285, 3 wins Jeanene Hayter 300, John Horn 186, 2 wins Mary Brintnell 212, Irene Dyck 198, Marion Dougall 181, Constance Kernick 172, Joan Rood 172, Clare Hayter 156 POLICE BRIEFS Drugs found in traffic stop BLUEWATER — On Dec. 8 a traffic stop in Bluewater yielded two males in possession of sus- pected cannabis marijuana.
