Amaryllis bulbs available to support the Huntington Society
By Joan Beierling
VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA - The Stan Lee Christmas dinner was
held in the complex with 34 attending. The Varna
UCW served a wonderful turkey dinner with all
the trimmings and delicious desserts.
Doug McAsh thanked the ladies on behalf of the
Stan Lee Club.
Entertainment was provided by Tom and Rose
Merrigan from Hensall. They sang a wide variety
of songs (Newfie songs and humour being their
specialty). Rose accompanied on the guitar.
Thanks to Mona and Ralph Stephenson for
arranging for them to come.
They missed the Stephensons and the Deicherts
who were off to a musical show in Toronto!
Thanks to Mel and Betty Graham and Bill
Taylor for donating door prizes along with the
Stan Lee Club. Winners were Mary Lou Henry,
Elmer Hayter, Anna Keys, Marjorie Stirling,
Mildred McAsh and Eleanor McAsh.
New Year's meeting
The New Year for Stan Lee will begin with a pot
luck dinner at 12 noon sharp on Jan. 9, 2008.
After the meal a presentation will be made by
several students from Exeter High School who
attended the Vimy Ridge ceremonies earlier this
year.
Anyone in the community who would like to
hear their moving presentation is welcome to
attend. It will probably start about 12:30 pm.
The Varna Crokinole Club met last Tues., Dec.
11 for their last get together for this year.
Members were randomly divided into groups for
singles play. Winners of the Side A were Joe
Fulop with 51, Ralph Stephenson 46, David
Turner 45 and Dave Whyte with 42. Side B Abe
Lietch won first with 60 points, Murray Purdue
50, Ken Polick 45 and Russ Watson with 44
points.
The Club will meet again in the New Year Jan.
8, 2008 for doubles play at the Varna Church.
Worship was in Goshen because of bad weather.
Sun., Dec. 23 Christmas Sunday please come out
to Goshen Church and celebrate as the choir pre-
sents a Christmas Cantata- "The Miracle of Love"
Please bring pointsettias along with you.

the Saskatchewan Roughriders over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
With DeVries above is Jim Pinder, the seller of the final winning tick-
et, who received $50. Other winners were: Barb Storey (Third
Quarter winner, $150), Herman Gower (Half Time winner, $100) and
